Government Schemes in India for Women Welfare and Women Empowerment
Women’s empowerment has become an important topic for the overall development of the country. Although the principles of gender equality are promoted in our constitution. despite this, many beliefs and traditions follow gender inequality and unfairness towards women in our society.
To overcome these differences and to make society a better place for women. The Indian Government has launched many schemes for the welfare and benefits of women.
Some of the list of important Government schemes in India for women welfare and empowerment are as follows
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana (BBBPY)
The collaboration of the Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme on January 22, 2015, with the help of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare the Ministry of Human Resource and Development.
This government scheme is an important step taken by the Government of India to bridge a gap between the birth of a girl and boy newborns and increase the child sex ratio (CSR). This scheme mainly aims to eliminate female abortions. Mainly these scheme helps Enabling women for their valuable contribution to the nation’s economy.
Objectives –
- Prevent gender-biased sex particular elimination.
- Ensure survival and protection of the girl child.
- Secure education of the girl child.
Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)
The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched this government scheme in india on January 1, 2017. It provides maternity benefits to pregnant and lactating mothers. Maternity is an important phase in every women’s life and this government scheme provides financial assistance to the women who have lost their wages during childbirth and childcare.
This is a cash transfer plan for pregnant and lactating women over 19 years of age for the first live birth. Those women who are not government employed and those who don’t have any similar benefit through other schemes are the beneficiaries of this scheme.
The benefits of PMMVY are broken down into 3 installments however they transferred to the women’s bank account.
- First installment – Transfer of Rs. 1000/- after the registration of pregnancy in Anganvadi or any approved health care center.
- Second installment – Firstly transfer of Rs. 2000/- after completing 6 months of pregnancy and attending at least one Ante-natal checkup.
- Third installment– Secondly transfer of Rs 2000/- after registration of childbirth and the first cycle of child immunization.
