Casino properties located in Genting Highlands, a highland near the capital Kuala Lumpur, remain open within safe operating standards during the pandemic.

"The affected workers were discovered during routine health and safety checks and were immediately isolated," the resort\'s World Genting website said on Thursday. The gaming complex (file photo) is operated by Genting Malaysia Bhd.

"We have thoroughly disinfected and disinfected our employees and all frequented areas. These restaurants are not accessible to the public," the release said.

"Contact tracing is ongoing and we have requested that some staff who have been to this canteen be accommodated separately for a certain period of time as a precaution. In the meantime, we have reported this matter to the Department of Health and will work closely with authorities to resolve it," he added

The resort said government-recommended standard operating procedures continue to be implemented, and will continue to be reviewed and improved to ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone at Resort World Genting. Such measures include wearing face masks and adherence to physical distancing recommendations, it added.

In late December, Resorts World Genting said in a notice that so-called tightened movement control orders imposed by the government on neighbouring areas to curb the COVID-19 pandemic do not apply to venues.

The gaming complex said in a November notice that one staff member of the property\'s security department had tested positive for COVID-19. "All close contacts in this case have completed the necessary medical treatment, isolation period and testing before resuming work," it said in a follow-up statement.
