Game. Set. Equity: Daisy Lee’s Bold Blueprint for the Future of Badminton and Women in Sport

In the constantly changing landscape of sports, few have leaders making as lasting a difference as Daisy Lee, as Executive Director has not only raised the profile of badminton in British Columbia but also set a new standard for equity, innovation, and purpose within the sporting community. Her path from competitive courts to executive boardrooms. She illustrates the strength of strategic leadership grounded in compassion and community.

With more than a decade of experience as a nonprofit administrator, project manager, and grant writer, Daisy Lee is now synonymous with transformation. Her unrelenting commitment to empowering women in sport coupled with her sharp strategic instinct has transformed badminton into a platform for empowerment, community engagement, and inclusive excellence.

The Heart Behind the Racket: Daisy Lee Badminton Leadership

Daisy Lee's leadership of badminton extends well beyond organizational responsibilities. With a strong history of playing, coaching, and developing the sport, she carries with her a rich understanding of what badminton is or rather, what badminton can be done not only as a sport, but also as a door to individual growth and community engagement. Her work at Badminton BC has reshaped the nature of leadership in sport, especially in a post-pandemic world where community and equity are more vital than ever before.

Working under the leadership of Daisy, Badminton BC has focused on athlete development, access for the community, and equity-based programming. She has added elements that increase the accessibility of badminton in underserved communities and make it more inclusive for girls and women. It is a sport for all, according to Daisy, and her efforts assure that it is so.

Championing Women in Sport: A Strategic Shift

Daisy Lee is more than a voice for fairness, she is a builder of change. Perhaps her greatest contribution has been as a leader in guiding the creation and implementation of grants dedicated to enhancing the participation of females in sport. As a grant writer and planner, Daisy obtained critical funding which directly benefited programs for young girls and women, including training for female coaches, mentorship networks, and female-headlined competitions.

Through all this, she has established a solid foundation for long-term gender balance in badminton, opening up opportunities for women to lead, compete, and excel. "It's not enough to say we want change,we have to build it from the inside," Daisy frequently quotes. Her work demonstrates that tenet at every level.

The Gender Equity Playbook: Building with Purpose

One of the most impactful projects Daisy Lee has led has been Badminton BC's collaboration with Canadian Women & Sport, a national organization committed to gender equity in sport. In partnership with Canadian Women & Sport, Daisy is guiding the uptake of the Gender Equity Playbook, a robust resource intended to evaluate and enhance inclusion policy and practice.

Unlike generic strategies, the Gender Equity Playbook is tailored to the unique needs of Badminton BC. With Daisy at the helm, this project is not just about compliance, it's about culture change. “We have a limited amount of time to complete this initiative,” Daisy shares, “but we’re focused on doing it right. Equity isn’t a checkbox, it is about a  commitment.”

This project will have a lasting legacy for the sport in Canada, building institutional structures that guarantee women athletes and leaders to be respected, supported, and empowered.

Giving Back: Leadership Through Service

In a magnificent display of community leadership, Daisy Lee has given $31,000 to Peace Arch Hospital. The gift was from profits made at a charity function and badminton tournament, showing just how sport can be a positive force outside the court.

This act of philanthropy is reflective of Daisy's overall philosophy: athletic success must be accompanied by service to society. By correlating athletic success with community building, Daisy is developing a model of leadership based on empathy and action.

Her philanthropy does not end with a single event. Daisy goes on working with community leaders, healthcare professionals, and local organizations to ensure that sport is viewed not merely as competition but as a tool for positive change.

From the Finish Line to the Front Lines of Community Change

Daisy Lee's narrative is one of evolution from athlete to advocate, and from organizer to change-maker. Each step in her career is marked by a profound conviction that sport can and must be used for the greater benefit. At the helm of Badminton BC as it enters the future, Daisy is not just building programs she is designing a vision.

Her leadership is a combination of the practical (project planning, strategic execution, and financial management) with the visionary (equity advocacy, cultural change, and community interaction). It's an uncommon mix that has put her in the front ranks of sport leadership in Canada.

Whether it's drafting the grants that fund women athletes, building partnerships that lift whole communities, or standing at the podium to speak for equity, Daisy Lee leads with both talent and passion.

A Visionary Roadmap for the Future of Women in Sport

What sets Daisy Lee apart is her capacity to view the larger picture. Her vision for the future of badminton and women in sport isn't limited to policy or forms; it's infused in every move she makes. By investing in women's leadership development, growing community outreach, and creating space for marginalized voices, she is making a daring benchmark for the rest of the sports universe to match.

Daisy Lee also has a major responsibility in guiding the next generation of female leaders. "We need to believe in the potential of women if we want to see more women in leadership," she states. Through guidance and support, Daisy is making sure her legacy doesn't come to an end with her multiplying.

The Road Ahead: Leading with Heart and Impact

As badminton continues to flourish in Canada, the efforts of leaders such as Daisy Lee are increasingly important. In a sports world often obsessed with victories and rankings, Daisy teaches us that the greatest wins are those that construct individuals, communities, and future possibilities.

She is testament that sport leadership is not merely about performance, but about purpose. And as she keeps writing a new chapter for badminton and gender equality in British Columbia, it's obvious the greatest is yet to come.

Final Rally: Sign Up for the Movement

Daisy Lee's book is an appeal to action for organizers, funders, athletes, and community members. If you share a vision of a world where sport makes everyone equal, no matter gender, background, or ability, now is the time to get involved.

Volunteer with local sports programs. Organize for gender equity in your neighbourhood. Support organizations like Badminton BC. Or just pass along Daisy Lee's story and challenge others to lead with integrity and effect.

The game isn't over, it's just getting started. And because of leaders such as Daisy, it's a game in which all people can play.
