Fenbendazole Capsules
Fenbendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic. It is used against intestinal parasites, including giardia, roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms (except Dipylidium caninum, the common dog tapeworm), and pinworms in animals such as dogs, cats, sheep, horses, cattle, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, birds, freshwater shrimp tanks, and reptiles. It is also used against lungworms and flukes in dogs and nematodes in mice and rats. It is available in a number of countries, including the United States under the brand name Panacur or Safe-Guard.
In laboratory experiments, fenbendazole has been shown to kill cancer cells by disrupting microtubules and interfering with glucose metabolism. It has also been shown to reduce tumor size and vascularity. The combination of vitamin antioxidants with fenbendazole has been suggested to enhance the activity of this drug.
A recent report of a human nonsmall cell lung carcinoma cell line treated with fenbendazole and vitamin E found that the combination treatment inhibited tumor growth and decreased vascularity. The combination treatment also reduced the formation of spontaneous lung metastases in the lungs of mice.
These findings are important because fenbendazole is the only anthelmintic currently available that has been shown to have antitumor activity in humans. Repurposing veterinary drugs with promising clinical results for use in humans can greatly reduce the time and expense required to develop new medications. Although fenbendazole is not toxic at therapeutic doses in most species, it may cause an adverse reaction in some animals. These effects typically include facial swelling, hives, diarrhea, and/or vomiting.fenbendazole capsules
