History

The remains of carcharodontosaurus was first found in 1924. In the continental intercalaire of Algeria, two teeth were discovered that looked quite unique. Famous scientists Deperet and Savornin described these teeth of carcharodontosaurus as depicting a new taxon, which they gave a name Megalosaurus saharicus. Then Ernst Stromer found some remains of skull and skeleton in Egypt, which he believe matched with the characteristics that Deperet and Savornin gave about Megalosaurus saharicus. It was Stromer who decided to give these newly discovered species the name carcharodontosaurs because they resembled a lot like the teeth of carcharodon (great white shark).

Description

Although there are other dinosaur species that are bigger and heavier than carcharodontosaurus, it would be foolish to rule it out because it was known as one of the heaviest, carnivorous species. Scientists have come to this conclusion because one of its species, for example, C. saharicus had a length of about 12 to 13.3 meters and weight of about 6.2 to 15.1 metric tons. Isn’t that amazing?
