What is Language Lab:
- Language lab is a combination of Hardware and technology. In simple words, Hardware and software.
- It’s a computer or Laptop and software installed on it and an input device such as Mike.
- Language lab is a Combination of Computers with Mike and software which covers all the knowledge.
- Language labs are basically, a self-learning workstation. The software itself is divided or classified as suggested by many renewed expert organizations like Cambridge English and other standards Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages have defined the structure of software, how it should be, and levels of software. They are classified into different levels and have a pattern to learning English students.
- The whole purpose of the language lab is to allow the student to play with the software, learn and practice.
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is a widely recognized framework used to assess and describe language proficiency levels. Language labs are designed and built on these guidelines. The framework and flow are already available in the software. - Unfortunately, The purpose of language labs is not met in INDIA, because, the schools have a habit of monitoring students and keeping them under their radar. Labs are meant to do experiments and practice.
- When the teacher is monitoring the student completely will make the student nervous and the student develops disinterest or fear.
- The main purpose of language lab is to make the student free from fear of English but with the teacher’s too much monitoring and intervention, the student will lose interest to learn the language.
