Which Teams Will Play in Group A?
England enter the Qatar Footbal World Cup with high hopes after having been successful at the last Euros and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Iran appears in another major tournament, their team is built on resilience defensively and is a tough side that is hard to break.

Taremi has been a regular at Porto in recent seasons and will be Iran’s biggest threat in attack. He is already in Iran’s all-time top 10 with 28 goals and could climb higher in the Football World Cup.
USMNT – Gio Reyna
The Americans boast many young talents with rising values, but Reina could be the main X-factor in their attack. The Borussia Dortmund striker is dynamic with the ball and can make an impact both in the starting lineup and off the bench for the USMNT.
Wales – Neco Williams

England Vs USA – A look at the USA Football World Cup team and U.S. U-20 training camp roster in Frisco
Tuesday U.S. Soccer announces USMNT and U.S. training camp rosters U-20 in Frisco from October 25th to November 6th. Brian Schiaretta of ASN shared his thoughts on each of the lineups.
US Soccer has announced two rosters that will be part of the camp in Frisco, Texas from October 25 to November. 6. One roster consisted of full national team players who are based in MLS but whose season ended before the conference finals. The other roster was for the US Under-20 team. The two groups are expected to train together.
Here are the two rosters and some thoughts on it all.

Thoughts on the USMNT roaster
The USA football world cup national team line-up isn’t all that surprising to those in it. Last year, eight of the nine players on the roster were capped. The only exception is Gaga Slonina, the young goalkeeper Gregg Berhalter often talked about who was sold to Chelsea from the Chicago Fire.
One of the few surprises among the players on the roster is that Slonina is on the USMNT roster and not on the US U-20 roster. He is eligible to play for both teams, but his next big challenge at international level will be next year’s U-20 Football World Cup. But it seems that his inclusion in the USMNT squad instead of the U-20 team is just a sign of trust in the young goalkeeper, who was heavily recruited by Poland, but ultimately chose the United States.
The biggest history of the American roster has to do with those players who were not in the roster. Now a few more may appear based on the MLS Conference Finals. LAFC’s Kellyn Acosta and NYCFC’s Sean Johnson are the most likely, and likely the only two potential players to be included if their teams fail to qualify for the MLS Cup. What was interesting was that there were some notable players who were left out of this list whose teams had already been eliminated.
Brandon Vasquez: The Cincinnati forward has never played for Team USA but has had a very impressive season in which he scored 18 goals to secure the Cincinnati to the conference semi-finals.
Matt Miazga: The Cincinnati center back was a big part of Berhalter’s early season plans, but he didn’t have a call in his last season in Europe, where he rarely played in Spain.
Djordje Mihajlovic: The Montreal midfielder is moving to AZ Alkmaar after a great two-year run with the Canadian team. In 2022, he had 12 goals and seven assists in 2,531 minutes in the MLS, playoffs and CONCACAF Champions League. In 2021, he had four goals and 14 assists in 2804 minutes. That’s a total of 11 goals and 21 assists in 5,335 minutes in 67 games.
Eric Williamson: The Portland Timbers center linebacker was an important player for Team USA in the 2021 Gold Cup. He then tore his cruciate ligament and recovered by the first half of the season. As soon as he shook off the rust, he had a very nice long stretch to Portland.
It’s easy to see that Berhalter has moved on from the likes of Sebastian Lletget and Gyasi Zardes, but there are other players who could well be considered for the next cycle starting in just three months.
Vazquez is the best example because it’s very easy to see how another strong start to the 2023 season could bring him a challenge next year. He’s unrestricted and Mexico will definitely notice if Team USA doesn’t. The same can be said for Mihajlovic, who could possibly still count on Qatar World Cup if there was an injury or two.
Thoughts on the US U-20 roaster
The roster for the U.S. Under-20 team is mostly made up of familiar faces. It’s hard for the US Under-20 team to have a serious training camp without Philadelphia Union first-team players, as there are four players on that team. But there are a lot of standard players.
An important takeaway was the inclusion of Aidan Morris and John Tolkien, who are too old for the 2023 Under-20 World Championship. Their inclusion suggests that U.S. Soccer is beginning to look at players who are eligible for the 2024 Olympic Under-23 Team, which the team qualified for last summer at the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.
This team will likely start gathering in 2023, but it would be wise to take advantage of the inclusion of some players who may be eligible. If Philadelphia players were available, Leon Flach might also be a smart player to turn on.
The US Under-20 team’s year of birth starts in 2003, but the U-23 team will include players born in 2001 and 2002. These players have minimal US Soccer experience because COVID canceled their U-20 cycle (2021 U-20 Football World Cup).
Among the eligible U-20 players on this team, most of the roster is standard. Cayden Pierre is getting a new look and the US Under-20 Team has a spot on the right side of defense. Daniel Leyva is in the game but Obed Vargas is still not immune from the back injury that kept him out of qualification in June. Caden Clark is rumored to be injured and looking for a new club.
The two most unexpected inclusions were Benjamin Cremaschi and Marcos Zambrano who are the latest inclusions of what looks to be a very promising born 2005 class that is also eligible for the next U-20 cycle. Both Kremaschi and Zambrano impressed at the last US U-19 camp in September, where the US won all three games in Slovenia. Neither player has yet signed a homegrown contract.
With so many 2005-born players, Esmir Barjaktarovic has surprisingly not received a call-up despite spending time with the Under-20s and playing first minutes for New England this season. Niko Tsakiris, however, is another player born in 2005 who returned to the team after qualifying. The San Jose linebacker signed with the Quakes and put in a string of impressive performances during what was a very disappointing season for the Quakes.
