Christian Church is a term referring to the worldwide religious body of Christians who, for the most part, are either alive or have passed away. It was also used historically as a synonym of the Holy Roman Church, which was responsible in large part for the destruction during Medieval Ages. It is a form of Christian thought, but it incorporates ideas from different religions and does not consider itself a type of Christian religion. The most fundamental tenet that is shared by all Christians is their belief in the Bible’s doctrines. They all hold to the fundamental Christian beliefs regarding Jesus and the head of the Christian religion, God. The church also teaches its followers to treat each other with respect, not to engage in aggression, honor and obey authorities, and to be self-critical. These are all traditional Christian values. Although some might question the relevance of these principles in our current society, it’s something that could be addressed in a different article.
Although there are a few minor differences between the two organisations, there are also some significant similarities. Both are run by an office central to the church or presiding clergy, who are divinely appointed. The bishops, priests, and pastors are elected to represent a specific region or diocese. They pray with God and their fellow church members regularly. Bishops in the Catholic Church typically come from the Latin Church. They wear white hats, while priests wear a black hat when speaking in the church.
The first official Christian Church document was written by Ignatius an elder of the church. He wrote letters to his church members and offered help to those suffering. This was the foundation of the four major branches of Christianity. Justin was the next to follow, and he also founded the first church in the region. Later the Roman Catholics adopted much of the Old Testament tradition but also added Christian beliefs and traditions.
There are many areas of common conviction between the two churches. They both have a strong belief in the Word of God and the practice of baptism. In both instances, children are welcomed into the church family. Biblical baptisms are celebrated by soaking the head in water from a fountain. The priest then anoints and blesses the child and then places the child in a chair inside the central church. After singing an appropriate hymn, the child is given the Holy Communion wafer and an official rite of ordination is performed by an orally ordained pastor.
The beliefs of the two religions on hell are another major difference. The Catholic Church believes salvation is through faith in Christ’s cross. All people, even atheists are saved by Christ’s death on the cross. To the catholic Church, death is not a mean and fitting end but an excellent entry into heaven.
The main difference between the two is that the Catholic Church lays special emphasis on confession. The confession is held in private between two adults, who are assisted by a priest. The priest will ask the individual questions about their religious beliefs as well as sinful behavior and what they think about God. The questions are answered honestly. The individual then freely divulges any secrets that he/she thinks are worthy of confession. For the catholic Church it is all of these important documents which define one’s relationship to God.
The Christian faith however holds that salvation is only possible through God’s grace. This belief allows a person to be justified and made righteous through God through faith in Jesus Christ. Because of this, no matter how an individual may try, he will never be saved from sin. He must also believe that Jesus is his savior.
