Credit Card Frauds
Credit card fraud has become so widespread that it is time for banks to take action. Today there is no 100% guarantee that cardholders will not become victims of fraud by criminals. Often, the latter is played by the employees of financial institutions themselves. The development of technology is not only beneficial to humanity but also harmful. With the introduction of new security mechanisms, fraudsters are forced to adapt to new conditions, while developing effective methods of deception.
General information for holders
It is worth noting that the cards themselves are becoming more secure than a few years ago. For example, now they have stopped producing plastic without a special chip, but the crooks still keep up with the times and continue to use the inattention of citizens.

People use them everywhere: pay in stores;

Ways to inattention
Lebanese loop or scotch tape method
Two different ways, but with a similar principle.
The first option, loop, involves capturing a card by placing a trap from a photographic film in the form of a pocket into the ATM card reader. When the “plastic” hits it, it gets stuck. The emphasis is on the fact that after the terminal refuses to issue a card, the citizen will retire to clarify the problem, at which time the attacker withdraws the envelope and leaves the crime scene.
The scotch method consists of gluing double-sided tape to the cash dispenser opening, which prevents the provision of funds. The cardholder does not receive the money, but the actual settlement takes place. Writing off the problem as a technical problem, it is deleted. The fraudster, knowing the intricacies, takes the amount not received by the legal owner.
SMS fraud
A standard example is sending messages to a mobile phone about the intentions of a credit institution to block funds on the card due to unauthorized access, with the requirement to provide details by phone in the form of text or by calling. At the same time, many do not stop at this – they ask to name a combination of a one-time password for transferring funds. In this case, the victims of fraudsters are elderly people who do not understand the nuances of banks’ policies, who specify in almost every official notification that employees of the organization do not have the right to request personal data of “plastic” and disseminate personal information.
Bay on the map
A fairly popular mechanism for “laundering” dirty funds stolen from other gullible clients is based on the principle of transferring money to a volunteer card, who agreed to cash the proceeds for a decent fee. It should be borne in mind that in this case, the risk manifests itself in two directions. The first is criminal liability. If it is proved that a person deliberately committed an offense, he can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to 7 years. Second, he can be deceived by the customer. Usually, in such transactions, an advance is taken first, after which the pseudo-fill is hidden.
Phone calls
One of the new schemes of deception, despite the fact that telephone fraud has been used for a long time. The bottom line is this: The person receives an SMS message with the number 900, which is the service number of Sberbank. In the text, an unknown citizen reflects a request to transfer a certain amount, which is debited from the victim’s account if the previously received combination is sent in a reply SMS.
At the same time, it is specified that any operation is automatically confirmed after 600 seconds. Obviously, not every person will quickly react to such conditions, therefore, they simply fall into a stupor. At this time, a call comes from the official number of Sberbank with the notification that fraudsters are trying to deceive the person, but a bank specialist will help with solving the problem. After that, he says to enter the received code, write “cancellation of the transfer” and send it to the same number. As a result, both the “helper” and the means disappear.
Negligent attitude to data
The cardholder treats personal information with negligence. Holds a credit card along with a PIN code or writes it on the back of the plastic. Fraudsters steal the card and withdraw money.
Oh, those relatives
Sometimes it happens that close people or colleagues use a credit card without permission.
What? Over shoulder
When entering your PIN at an ATM, make sure no one looks over your shoulder. This is one of the most common ways to take over your code. Then the card is stolen and money is withdrawn.
Fake points of sale
Special points of sale of goods or services, bank branches, or existing ones are used, where the client can pay with a credit card. When the settlement takes place, the card information is copied and shared with criminals.
To save yourself from credit card fraud then, identify your credit card number with a cc checker before making any transaction.
