COVID-19 Restrictions to Follow While Travelling by Air to Canada
Unfortunately, we are still far from seeing the end of the pandemic and some restrictions are still in place for travelers returning to Canada by air. Now whether you need transportation from airport to quarantine hotel or not, it is always best to be familiar with current rules and regulations.
The first and most definitive rule in this book is that travelers with COVID-19 symptoms are going to be denied flight boarding. The health check is a combination of questionnaire and visual observation of the travelers. The actual details and guidelines for this test are provided by the PAHC (Public Health Agency of Canada).
When you arrive in Canada and are deemed symptomatic, you may need to travel from the airport to the quarantine center regardless of whether you are fully vaccinated or not.
In addition, the government of Canada added a list of new restrictions for all travelers:
- All travelers will undergo the aforementioned health check before boarding.
- Boarding of domestic flights for travelers determined to have COVID-19 symptoms will be refused.
- Boarding of domestic flights for travelers who had been denied boarding on similar grounds within the previous 14 days will also be refused.
Furthermore, there are new allowances for identification needed for domestic air travel. Flight officials are directed to accept identification that has expired after March 1st, 2020. This dispensation has been provided in view of the fact that many government services have been suspended during lockdown seasons and lots of Canadians could not renew their IDs.
This new guideline will only apply to domestic flights and includes either:
- Single piece of Canadian federal, provincial or territorial, government-issued photo ID with the holder’s full name and date of birth.
- Two pieces of non-photo ID issued by the Canadian federal, provincial or territorial government. Both have to have the holder’s full name and one should also include a date of birth.
Travelers who have boarded the plane but who are beginning to experience COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, coughing or shortness of breath are asked to notify the flight crew without delay.
An important addition to this is that many provinces and territories still demand all or some travelers take up a 14-day period of self-isolation. In some cases, a quarantine hotel is also required and you may need quarantine travel with airport taxi.
Should you need assistance, Aeroport Taxi is here to provide you with the means of travel from the airport to the quarantine center.
