Coach Allister Coetzee said Namibia starts Rugby World Cup 2023 preparation
Allister Coetzee, Namibia’s coach, says that once the team reaches the final, the main preparations for the Rugby World Cup 2023 will begin. Namibia must put in a lot of effort to qualify for the tournament. The Welwitchias defeated Kenya 36-0 on Sunday in Aix-en-Provence to qualify for the tournament in France.

Coetzee told African media: We are looking forward to the next chapter, but there is a lot of hard work to be done. In any case, this is a wonderful step for all Namibians. Namibia begins Rugby World Cup 2023 preparation with Griquas clash
Namibia will start preparations for the Rugby World Cup 2023 on Saturday with the South African Rugby Union team Grikas in Windhoek. Namibia’s match against runners-up Currie Cup is the first of three preparation matches scheduled for this month.
The South West African nation, which has drawn three-time world champion New Zealand hosts France, Italy and Uruguay, will also play Spain next week and Canada a week later in preparation for an exhibition tournament to be held in September 2023 in France.
Coach Allister Coetzee said three players Aranos Coetzee, Thorsten van Jaarsveld and captain Johan Deisel would not be able to play Saturday’s match but would join the team in Europe. He told local media that he was very happy to start preparing for the World Cup in front of home fans.
“This is a great opportunity to start preparing for the World Cup at home in front of our fans. We have 11 months left, which is not that far away. This is important for us, as we played little at home, said the coach.”
Namibia beat Kenya 36-0 in the African Cup final and booked their Rugby World Cup 2023 ticket for the seventh consecutive time since their debut in 1999. The African team has yet to win a single match in the Rugby World Cup final.
Allister Coetzee makes international return as Namibia begin Rugby World Cup 2023 qualification
The former Springbok coach is looking to build on the success of his predecessor Phil Davies as Namibia travel to the Rugby World Cup 2023 qualifiers in Ivory Coast this weekend. With his voice slightly raspy after training with the Namibian national team, Allister Coetzee enthusiastically spoke to RWC 2023 on Wednesday about his return to international coaching.
Coetzee, 58, has been absent from the test arena since losing his job as head coach of the Springboks in December 2017, and his last coaching appointment was before the COVID-19 outbreak in Japan with the Canon Eagles.
But after spending the last year in South Africa to be with his family during difficult times, Coetzee is happy to be back on the pitch, working directly with top level players, even if he’s a little hoarse from shouting instructions.
“This is my first time on the field again, so my voice sounds a little different, he explained. But I really enjoy being back on the pitch and working with a group of passionate players. I first met them on a Saturday night in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, after I flew in directly from Cape Town and there was a connecting flight. I have never worked with any of the players or management before, but the way we have integrated has been good and everything is going well.”
A Lill’ helping hand
One of Coetzee’s first decisions was to appoint experienced striker Pieter-Jan Van Lille as his captain for the upcoming Africa Cup matches. This Saturday’s match against Ivory Coast and next Wednesday’s match against Madagascar double as Rugby World Cup 2023 qualifiers. For more know about Italy vs Namibia Tickets Click Here.
“We will be tested, I’m sure. If it were in Namibia, in Windhoek, then perhaps I would say that my favorite tag is the right one. But the output here is different, he said. I didn’t see the Ivory Coast or Madagascar game, no video analysis. But I know the Ivorians have a pretty big group and some of their players are playing in France in Pro D2, so it’s not going to be a walk, it’s going to be a test for this team that hasn’t played together since the Rugby World Cup. “
Van Lille, whose Vannes club just missed the top 14 in France, will be assisted by Leslie Klim, a winger who plays in the second tier of English club rugby with the Jersey Reds. Both players played at the 2019 Rugby World Cup and will form an experienced backbone of the team at the next tournament in France – if the Velvichi get there.
“It is a great honor and privilege to be able to help internationally again, Coetzee added. It’s a lot of work and I think the most important thing is to get Namibia into the Rugby World Cup 2023.”
For Coetzee, creating serious competition and the right team profile will be two key factors on the road to success over the next two years. But he stressed that the focus will be on evolution, not revolution, as he hopes to build on the solid platform laid by Welshman Phil Davies, who has overseen the last two of Namibia’s six Rugby World Cup campaigns to date.
Phil set up a platform here, and from what I’ve seen and heard, a lot of good has been done, he said. We don’t want to reinvent the wheel and start over, we need to take strategic planning that has worked and build on it.
In the next two years, my main task will be to provide a team of players who will be ready to represent their country at the next Rugby World Cup. I think the composition of your team is so important that you need to go to the RWC not too old, but already quite experienced team.
“I believe this is what all international teams will strive for and they will bring young blood for the next two years. We have a pretty good group of young players and I will keep an eye on them until 2023.”
Namibia qualifies for the France Rugby World Cup 2023
Coetzee stated: It is indeed a great privilege to be able to once again contribute internationally. The main goal of this daunting task, in my opinion, should be to ensure that Namibia Rugby World Cup team is qualified for the France Rugby World Cup 2023. Over the next two years Coetzee will focus on two key areas. Firstly, it is the creation of strong competition, and secondly, the choice of the right team profile.
He stressed that evolution, not revolution, would be at the center of his efforts to build the solid foundation laid by Welshman Phil Davies. Who ran the last two Rugby World Cup campaigns in Namibia? From what I heard and observed, a lot of good work has been done, he said. This is where Phil built the foundation.
We must improve the existing effective strategic planning. We don’t want to recreate the wheel and start from scratch. My main priority for the next two years will be to find players who want to play for their country at Rugby World Cup 2023. We need a team that is not too young, but with enough experience, in my opinion. If you want to qualify RWC.
I think all international teams have this as their main goal. Over the next two years, they will recruit several young players. Coetzee also wants to give his players a lot of competition outside of the test windows, especially for the Namibian players who will be watching them from now until RWC 2023. We have a really strong recruitment of young players.
Rugby World Cup: Namibia had the lowest ranking
Namibia was the lowest ranked team in the Rugby World Cup. But under Davis, he put in some really strong performances. Despite losing 58-14 to the All Blacks. The Velvichs managed to earn their first ever RWC point against Georgia by a close margin. When the Springboks won rugby, Coetzee was part of the coaching staff.
With Africa 1 qualifying in the same pool as the All Blacks, France, Italy and America 1s, Namibia’s goals are likely to be lower than the Springboks’ if they can qualify for the France Rugby World Cup 2023. What will be, as Coetzee said, and we can not resist it. Since we want to win the game, our goals will not change.
A typhoon in Japan prevented them from playing in Canada. Therefore, they were forced to reschedule the match. Luck is sometimes required in the Rugby World Cup. When left winger Mark Cueto scored from a corner, Dani Rossow was able to put his foot on the line. Just as Coetzee dealt with losing his position as head coach of the Springboks, Cueto had to make the most of his experience. Coetzee, on the other hand, said the experience strengthened him.
