Chatbot ChatGPT caused ‘Code Red’ emergency at Google, Report Claims
According to the information provided in a post in 2012, it appears that Code Red and Code Yellow are terms used by Google to refer to different levels of emergency or priority within the company.
Code Red is described as meaning “all hands on deck,” suggesting that it is a high-priority situation that requires the attention and efforts of all employees.
Code Yellow, on the other hand, is described as meaning “it is ok to go home and sleep and stuff but it is still a serious situation.” This suggests that Code Yellow is a less severe emergency that does not require the immediate attention of all employees but is still serious enough to warrant some level of caution or concern
It is worth noting that the information provided in the post is from 2012, and it is not clear if these terms are still in use by Google or if the company has adopted different emergency protocols since that time.
10 years later, in 2022, there are reports that Google had declared a Code Red emergency in response to the rising popularity of ChatGPT and the potential threat it posed to Google’s ad revenue. Sridhar Ramaswamy, a former leader of Google’s ad team, stated that ChatGPT could prevent users from clicking on Google’s ad-laden links, which generated 81% of Alphabet’s overall revenue of $208 billion in 2021. If ChatGPT is as effective as some claim it is, it could significantly disrupt Google’s ad revenue.
But according to Blake Lemoine, a former Google developer who was fired a few months ago after claiming that Google’s chatbot LaMDA had become sentient, Google is still ahead of ChatGPT in terms of technology.
“I love how people are talking about ChatGPT replacing Google while Google just quietly uses a more advanced dialogue system behind the scenes. ChatGPT is a big step in the right direction but they’re still a few years behind Google,” Lemoine tweeted.
