BCCI explains the reason, why they do not want IPL to be held on Diwali weekend
As per recent IPL news, The Board of Control for Cricket in India has almost confirmed the window for the 13th season of the Indian Premier League from 26 September (Saturday) to 8 November (Sunday), but according to a report, the organizers are not happy and they want that it should also include Diwali Weekend. The BCCI has clarified on this why there is difficulty in organizing the IPL at this date.
According to latest cricket news, a BCCI official has said that the concept of Diwali has changed now and the ratings of the Broadcast Audience Research Council BARC have not been much special over the years. Apart from this, the other reason is that due to the busy schedule of the international cricketer, the BCCI has always preferred that the players can spend this festival with their families. These are two reasons why the BCCI does not want the IPL to be played during Diwali.
The BCCI has also said that it has also talked to Star India for this. Let us know that Star India has many rights not only for IPL but also for international cricket broadcasting. The official further said that due to this, the players get rest as well as they get time to spend quality time with their family and relatives in Diwali, one of the biggest festival of India.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India wants to conclude the IPL in time for the Indian team’s tour of Australia. An official has said that the sooner the IPL ends, the sooner the Indian team will be able to leave for the Australian tour, which will begin on December 3. The whole world is eyeing this tour.
As per media reports, Cricket Australia has locked in four venues for the crucial Test series against India. The first match is tentatively set for a December 3 starting in Brisbane. It is expected that the second Test will be held in Adelaide and it could be a day/night affair as BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had committed this earlier.
There has been speculation around the fate of the tour owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, in view of the rising outbreak of Corona virus, the Government of India has made it clear to the BCCI that it should organize all its IPL matches without any audience. That is, matches should be organized, but it will not be possible for the spectators in the stadium to watch it.
As of now with the easing of Australia’s coronavirus situation, the series looks certain to go ahead without the need for a quarantine hub. The whole tour is taking place in one city had been a possibility but the biggest question as of now is whether – or how many – fans will be allowed to attend the matches.
While none of the three BCCI office-bearers were available for comment, it is expected that the visiting board in principle has Okayed the tentative schedule, subject to COVID-19 situation.
In Australia just over 7,000 cases are recorded out of which more than 6500 have recovered, while 102 have died.
