Best methods of transporting concrete
Introduction
Transportation of concrete is an essential activity in the production of concrete. The homogeneity of concrete obtained at the mixing time should be maintained while transporting to the final place of disposition.
So there are different methods of transportation of concrete that are as follows
- Mortar pan: It is one of the standard methods adopted in the industry. It is a labor-intensive method. If you use a mortar pan to take the concrete from one place to another, you will have to use much labor to transport the concrete from one place to another. It is used for more minor works. In this way, there is no scope for the segregation of concrete. It is because whatever the concrete is obtained from mixing with the help of the pan, you are transporting the concrete to the place.
In hot weather, there is a substantial loss of water due to more exposure of concrete to the environment. So one should wet the mortar pan surface before carrying the concrete. If the pan’s surface is dry, the mortar pan will absorb water from the concrete. With this method concreting at the ground level or above the ground level can be done without any difficulties using small quantities. SD Conmix provides the ready mix concrete for construction.
- Wheelbarrow: It is usually used to transport concrete at the ground level, i.e., road construction and other similar structures.
Wheelbarrows are used for long distances. One of the disadvantages of the wheelbarrow is that segregation can occur if transportation is done on rough roads. However, we can use pneumatic tyres to minimize this problem. SD Conmix provides high quality ready mix concrete for construction.
- Chute: The chute is generally used to move from the ground to lower levels. The sections of the chute should be made of or lined with metal. One should take care that the slope should not be flatter than 1V.2.5H. Otherwise, concrete will not slide down. It maintains the homogeneity of the concrete. The required consistency should not change to suit the delivery by chute. Technically it is not a suitable method of transporting the concrete, but it is extensively used in the field. It is because sometimes there is a lack of space for the movement of labor, and fear of disturbing the reinforcement. At SD Conmix, we ensure that we provide high quality ready mix concreteas per the customer specifications.
- Skip and hoist: This is a widely used method for transporting concrete. Employing a mortar pan and staging a human ladder for transporting concrete is not possible for more than 3 or 4 floors. The ground-level mixer directly feeds the skip, and the skip travels up over the pulley arrangement, rails up to the level where concrete is required. At that point, the skip discharges the concrete automatically.
- Belt conveyor: It has limited application in concrete construction due to chances of segregation on steep slopes. SD Conmixsupplies the mix concretein trucks at par with the industry standards.
