Beginner Blues Guitar
Check out John Watson Jr. aka “Johnny Guitar” Watson! He was an American blues, soul, and funk musician and singer-songwriter. He’s best known for classic hits such as “A Real Motha For Ya”, “Superman Lover” and “Ain’t That a Bitch”. He emerged in the 1950s & 1960s but many are familiar with the funk overtones be brought to his music more so in the 1970s. I wasn’t able to read on much about his childhood but here is a little bit of history. Johnny was born in Houston, TX and had the privilege of growing up with a pianist father. His grandpa was also a musical soul as well as a preacher. His grandpa was the first to give him a guitar. In his youth, Watson won several local talent shows. This led to his employment with jump blues-style bands such as Chuck Higgins’s Mellotones. As he turned older he began touring with and recorded with his friend Larry Williams, as well as Little Richard, Don and Dewey, The Olympics, Johnny Otis and, in the mid-1970s with David Axe
