Basic Surfing Rules You Must Know Before Doing it
Learning to surf can be one of the most thrilling and life-changing experiences you’ll ever have, but it can also be a lengthy, difficult, and frustrating process. You must not only learn to balance and navigate on an electric racing surfboard, but you must also learn about the ocean, develop good wave-reading skills, and have impeccable timing.
Despite the difficulties, surfing is a very rewarding sport, especially for those who put in the work and time to improve their skills. However, there are a few things to consider before starting surfing.
To learn to surf, choose proper waves
We all want to surf the best waves in the best areas, but some line-ups are simply beyond your skill level when you’re learning. Ask experienced surfers what waves you should be riding, and stick to those line-ups until you have a decent degree of expertise. Make this a continuing habit as you advance in your surfing.
Avoid dropping in
Dropping in on another surfer is a surfing cardinal wrong that you must avoid at all costs. For example, when a priority surfer is up on a wave and another surfer further down the line takes off on the same wave in front of the priority surfer, eventually getting in the priority surfer’s way and ruining their wave, it is known as dropping in. There is a priority system in most surfing queues worldwide, and you must follow it.
While paddling out, stay out of the way
This is hard, especially for beginners trying to surf crowded or heavy waves. The person riding the wave has the right of way at all times, and it is the paddler’s responsibility to move out of the way.
Normally, you can do so by paddling out in the channel or on the shoulder, but there will be instances when you are in the wrong position at the wrong moment and must choose between getting in someone’s way or paddling behind them and getting slammed by the wave. Always paddle behind when this happens.
Surfing is an amazing experience when you follow the game rules and select an unmatchable electric racing surfboard for yourself. We hope you won’t forget to follow these rules when you go into the sea.
