Australia – School Holidays in New South Wales
With summer nearly at an end, the New South Wales government introduced a new program that will see each of the state’s school boards work together on a unified program throughout the state. This will allow students to study at their own choice of schools during the school term, while other students can still study at their regular school. The new programs, called New South Wales School Holidays, provide students with great flexibility and convenience. In the past, parents have had to book trips several months in advance to get their children to their preferred Sydney or Perth university campuses. Now with the new programs, students can choose which school or college they would like to attend during the program. Once students have chosen that school, they can enroll their children in that particular school or college.
The four main types of NSW school holidays are the Full Term 1, Full Term 2, Half Term 1 and Part Term 1. The term 1 holiday lasts from 27 January through 31 January, inclusive of public holidays. Students can apply for the Full Term 1 for free. If a student has already started college, his/her school may be able to waive the application fee for this particular course. Students need to present their school ID or the registration card of their college to participate in the Full Term 1.
Students need to choose the appropriate dates for the new South Wales school holidays. For students living in Western Sydney, the dates for the New South Wales school holidays are as follows: The first term begins on Mondays; the second term commences on Tuesdays; the third term commences on Tuesdays; the fourth term commences on Wednesdays; and the final term commences on Thursdays. Students in Central Sydney can look forward to the New South Wales school holidays starting from the first day of August to the last day of October. Students can also choose the dates for New South Wales school holidays by using the terms of reference provided by the Department of Education. The New South Wales government also provides travel information and detailed maps for visiting school, places of interest, tourist attractions and other places of interest in New South Wales.
In contrast with the summer holidays, the average length of the New South Wales school vacations is three weeks. The number of days students can take off is six.
