Apple to Start Producing 5G Phones
Apple may begin its first 5G iPhones’ production in late September as per the Nikki Asian Report. The 5G iPhones will influence iPhone app development companies. Thus, enhancing the AR/ VR/ MR experience for mobile apps users.
Apple has overcome various travel curbs and other Covid-19 disruptions for the process. Hence, narrowing the production delay to weeks against months under the pandemic.
Apple will begin the manufacturing process on a limited scale. Then, it will boost up its production between the end of September and early October.
The Pandemic Effect
Apple starts its mass production in August every year for September releases. So, it’s behind Apple’s usual schedule over the past few years. But, it’s a notable improvement compared to the situation a few months ago.
As per the sources, Apple ordered components for up to 80 million devices. But, as per the sources, it may end up to 73-74 million, and others postponed to next year. The California tech giant may fall short of its production target for the year 2020 by 6 to 7 million units.
Apple will start 5G phones’ production with at least one model. The lowest-priced version with a 6.1-inch OLED screen and two rear cameras. This version takes around 40% of the company’s 5G devices’ production orders. The 6.7-inch, triple-camera 5G iPhone will be the most expensive model.
The Difficult Road
Apple went to great lengths to reduce the production delays of its 5G iPhones. Plus, maintaining its secrecy. Apple used to station staff at production sites to resolve engineering issues. But, the global pandemic forced them to do the work remotely. Thus, requesting all suppliers to deliver final samples to the U.S.
The tech giant packed all items, including tiny ones, into huge boxes. Later, shipped in special-purpose trucks to Hong Kong. They unload them onto a plane bound to California for engineers and lead designers to sign off.
The complicated procedures and upgrades from 4G to 5G involve a lot of work. It needs hands-on testing by both American Company’s engineers and suppliers in Asia. So, it was a big challenge for Apple.
The disruption in the development of 5G iPhones was very severe in March. It was following the quarantine need for foreigners entering China. At once, Apple even discussed the possible postponement of the launch until next year.
High on Confidence
Apple’s parts suppliers and final assemblers are gearing up for production. Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron are the ones among them. But, the start date for its manufacturing may vary, as per the sources.
“Apple believes the 5G iPhones to drive sales growth. Thus, reserving relatively healthy orders from the supply chain. It doesn’t see much disruption for the final production even under the pandemic. The delay looks manageable at the moment,” said Jeff Pu, an analyst at GF Securities.
He further added that Apple’s sales would boost rolling out all 5G models by the end of 2020. Plus, the unit sales growth will reach an estimate of 215 million units by 2021. But, Apple declined to comment on the matter.
Conclusion
Apple may launch a total of four 5G iPhones with three different screen sizes – 5.4, 6.1, and 6.7 inches. They all will use the advanced Organic Light-Emitting Diode or OLED display technology.
The 5G iPhones will bring a revolution in iPhone app development companies. It will set new trends in the mobile app development industry. Thus, enhancing the user experience.
