Plastic cards are used in various industries in the UK. You can use cards to identify an employee’s role, access facilities and enjoy discount deals. If you plan to acquire plastic cards for your business, you need to find a service that provides high-quality custom printed plastic cards.
ACB is a top provider of plastic card printing providers in the UK. We use the following processes to manufacture our cards:
1. Digital printing
Digital printing is a widely used card printing technique. It’s different from many printing methods because digital printers print directly on the substrate and don’t require printing plates. It provides 4-colour printing on both sides of the cards. Most manufacturers typically produce in 21-up or 42-up on a sheet.
Digital printers are ideal if you want cards with many differentdesigns or variable dataas it provides top-quality prints. Since it does not require the setting up of plates, it offers a quick turnaround and you won’t have to wait long for your cards. Digital printing is also cost-effective as there is no pre-press equipment needed.
Note that this technique has its downsides. First, it cannot print metallic. Secondly, digital printing may not be the best for customers looking for fine prints (this usually depends on the dpi).
2. Litho printing
In litho printing, images are transferred to printing plates and then covered in oil-based ink and water. Coloursor designs are transferred to ink rollers or rubber blankets and then onto the substrate. Unlike digital printing, lithographic printing doesn’t do four colours at a go-it only does one colour at a time.
Litho printing produces high-quality prints because ink flow across the four plates is controlled, significantly reducing contrast issues and wasted prints. So, this technique is great if you need to produce fine prints. While it may take longer to create cards, this technique produces a better finish than digital printing and is also great fordoing metallics.
3. Screen printing
This process involves pushing ink through a mesh screen with the artwork to recreate the design on the plastic card beneath. Screen printing is ideal for printing big, bold colours that take up large areas of the card, so it’s not the best method for producing fine prints.
Screen printing would also be perfect if you want just one colour on one side of your cards or to put signature panels on various types of cards. Like Litho printing, this method is also great for printing metallic colours.
