Anyone who has spent time on the road knows how difficult food can be. Sometimes, it’s almost impossible to eat without spending tons of money. At worst, you’re forced to eat unhealthy food because it’s the only stuff available. Here are a few things you can do to prepare while traveling for business.
Order Delivery Meals in Bulk
You can find excellent and affordable meal delivery in Chicago while you are doing business. This makes it easy to find food if you are busy or just don’t want to travel anywhere. You also save time and it is a healthy alternative to all of the fast food options that you typically find in a city. When traveling somewhere new, there’s something nice about eating exotic meals, too. So, that’s why it’s a part of all our trips whenever doing business on the road. Plus, by ordering the meals in bulk, saving money is easy. Trying to cook everything isn’t possible, most of the time. The bulk meals circumvent meal prep, so we’ve saved tons of time as well.
Bring an Air Fryer With You
If the company has you traveling by plane, this won’t be an option. But, an air fryer is small enough to toss in the trunk of your car, usually. Most hotels won’t mind if there’s one of them in the room, either. They’re similar to a regular microwave oven, but they use convection heating. So, cooking baked potatoes is still something you can do as long as you’ve brought one. Also, we’ve found food tastes better when it’s heated up in an air fryer. Microwaves tend to heat things up unevenly. That’s not as much of an issue with an air fryer since they have fans built into them.
Stock Up on Cheap Produce
Nothing costs more than meat at the grocery store, typically. Even a small rack of ribs can be over $30 if you’re at a busy location. So, it’s useful to stock up on stuff that’s cheaper. Produce has tons of fiber and other nutrients, making it super healthy. Best of all, it’s way less expensive than most cuts of meat. If you’ve brought the air fryer along, the produce doesn’t take long to cook, either.
Eat a Big Breakfast
Part of what makes us spend so much while traveling is how much it costs to eat snacks during the day. When there’s not enough time to cook, waiting for dinner feels like trekking across the desert. After you’ve gone miles in the heat, there’s only so much left in the tank. However, if you order a large breakfast, it’s usually easier to make it. When there’s plenty of food in you, skipping lunch doesn’t sound so impossible anymore.
Always Order Water When at a Restaurant
One of the quickest ways to add to your bill is ordering drinks at the restaurant. With a few of them on the tab, what you’ll pay is going to be much higher. Avoid racking up unnecessary fees on your dining bills and stop ordering drinks. Instead, ask the waiter for water once they’ve prompted you for a drink order. Not only is it less expensive, but it’s also better for your health. Ordering water can help you save while reducing the negative impact of dinner on your health, too.
Look for Suites With Kitchenettes
Let’s say you’re staying somewhere for business. The company has sent you away for several weeks, and they’ve given you a budget for housing. We’d recommend looking for a place that has a kitchenette before booking anything. With one of them in your room, eating healthy isn’t hard. You’ll have everything needed to cook at the end of each day, guaranteeing a healthy dinner. Just make sure you’re making it back to the room on time. Otherwise, you’ll feel rushed whenever cooking.
How to Eat Affordably While Traveling for Business
Health and money are two things we’ve all had to learn how to manage. Without either of them, life is much more difficult. Traveling as a business person involves learning new skills, too. But, if you’ve put in the effort to learn them, it’s not hard to be successful. All it takes is a bit of time and a willingness to do what’s necessary.
