A guide to the History of Dehradun
Dehradun, a city in India’s northern state of Uttarakhand is called this. With a population exceeding 1 million, it is the capital city of the state. It is located at 1,400m above sea level, in the Himalayan foothills. The city is surrounded on all sides by mountains. Dehradun ‘s history can be traced back as far as the 8th century, when it was mentioned in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Before it was annexed to independent India in 1947, the city was ruled over by many dynasties, including the British and Mughals. Dehradun is now an important industrial and educational center. It also houses many institutes, such as the Indian Military Academy or the Forest Research Institute. Because of its proximity to many natural attractions and hill stations, the city is a popular tourist spot.
