A Guide To Breast Uplift Surgery
A breast uplift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure ideal for candidates with sagging breasts that have developed either due to the aging process or due to sudden weight loss following pregnancy and breastfeeding. This uplift surgery of the breasts aims to lift or reshape breasts that hang low over the chest and have the majority of their volume at their base. It is an effective procedure to restore firmer, younger-looking, and enormous breasts.
Breast uplift surgery in Gurgaon performed by Dr. Shilpi Bhadani at SB Aesthetics aims to improve the elasticity of the female breast tissue by removing excess sagging tissue from the breast and transforming the breast mound and nipple. This surgery can reduce sagging and uplift the position of the nipples and the darker area surrounding the nipples (areolae). To keep the breasts in proportion to the newly shaped breasts, the size of the areolae can also be reduced during the procedure.
When to opt for breast uplift surgery?
Females who are experiencing the following concerns is an ideal candidate for this surgery:
- Breast sagging or having breasts that have lost shape and volume, or breasts have gotten flatter and longer.
- Breasts are unsupported or fall below the breast creases.
- Nipples and areolae point downward.
- Areolae have been stretched out of proportion to the breasts.
Ideal candidates for breast uplift surgery:
- Candidates for breast uplift surgery must be in overall good health.
- Candidates who do not smoke, as smoking interferes with the body’s capability to heal after surgery.
- Women between the age groups of 40 and 70 make up the larger number of breast uplift surgery candidates.
- The best candidates will be at or near their ideal weight.
Breast uplift surgery pre-requisites:
Patients must go through some tests and medical evaluation to confirm their candidature for the surgery before commencing with breast uplift surgery. Patients are suggested to follow the following instructions:
Reviewing the medical history: The surgeon will review the patient’s current and past medical conditions, any previous mammograms, any medications, and family history of breast cancer.
Physical examination: The surgeon will examine the quality of breast skin tone, the position of the nipples and areolae, and any discrepancy in size and shape on each side.
Photographs: One of the surgeons will take pictures of the breast (face not included) for medical records and compare the results.
The patient must discuss their desires and expectations in terms of the appearance of the breast with the surgeon before opting for the surgery.
Note: Mammogram is also scheduled before the surgery: If one is cleared as a good candidate for breast uplift surgery, the surgeon may recommend a baseline mammogram before the surgery.

Breast uplift surgery procedure:
A breast uplift procedure can be achieved through a variety of incision patterns and techniques based on breast size and shape, size and position of areolas, degree of breast sagging, skin quality and elasticity, and the amount of extra skin present.
- Anesthesia is administered for the comfort of the candidate during the surgical procedure.
- There are usually three common incision patterns: (a) around the areola; (b) around the areola and vertically down from the areola to the breast crease; and (c) around the areola, perpendicularly down from the breast crease and flat along the breast crease.
- Once the incision is made, the underlying breast tissue is uplifted and reshaped to improve breast contour and firmness. The nipple and areola are relocated to a natural and more youthful height.
- Enlarged areolas are decreased by cutting off excess skin on the outside. To compensate for a loss of elasticity, the unwanted breast skin is removed.
- The remaining skin is tightened after the breasts are reshaped, and excess skin is removed as the incisions are closed.
Results of breast uplift surgery:
- Candidates will notice an immediate improvement in the appearance of their breasts, though their shape will change and settle over the next few months.
- A candidate might notice that their bra size is a little smaller after a breast lift. This is simply a result of the breasts becoming firmer and rounder.
- As the age count increase, the skin will naturally become less elastic, and some sagging might occur, especially if someone has larger, heavier breasts. Hence, maintaining a stable, healthy weight can help the candidate retain the results.
Post-treatment care:
- After breast lift surgery, the breasts will likely be covered with gauze and a surgical support bra. To clear out any excess blood or fluid, small tubes might be placed at the incision sites in the breasts.
- The breasts will be bruised for about two weeks after surgery. The candidate will likely feel pain and soreness around the incisions, which will be red or pink for a few months.
- Loss of sensation in the nipples, areolae, and breast skin might last for about six weeks.
- Pain medication should be taken as recommended by the doctor for the first few days after a breast lift.
- Sexual activity should be avoided for at least one to two weeks after breast lift surgery.
- Drainage tubes may be placed near the incisions and are typically removed within a few days. When the doctor removes the tubes, he or she will also probably change or remove the bandages.
- Ask the doctor about when or if the stitches will be removed. Some stitches diffuse on their own. Others must be removed within one to two weeks after the procedure.
- The surgical support bra should continue to be worn round-the-clock for three or four days. Then wear a soft support bra for three or four weeks. To promote healing, the doctor might suggest using silicone tape or gel on the incisions.
- Keep the breasts away from the sun while the candidate is healing. Afterward, protect the incisions during sun exposure.
