What is meant by reinforced Ready Mix Concrete?
Concrete is one of the primary components of construction material. It is made by mixing cementing material such as Portland cement, mineral aggregates such as sand and gravel), and water so that the cement can set and bind. Sometimes, the concrete is reinforced to provide strength against tensile stress and this is called reinforced ready-mix concrete.
Ready-mix concrete is a mixture of concrete and aggregate that is mixed and poured into forms that are ready for use. It is available in different particle sizes which are categorized by the method of their production.
Reinforced ready mix concrete is mixed with a special mix of sand and gravel, forming concrete that is stronger and more durable than regular concrete. The mix is made to be stronger for use in commercial construction, where there is a greater need for durability. It is also used for certain types of home construction, including sidewalks.
There are different types of reinforced ready-mix concrete such as:
Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) – In this type of concrete, glass fibers are used for reinforcement and the addition of glass fibres increases the tensile strength by approximately two times and about 10 times the impact resistance.
Uses of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete
- Bridge and tunnel lining panels
- Architectural cladding
- Building renovation works
- Water and drainage works…etc
Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) – This type of concrete is manufactured by the addition of steel fibers as one of the components of concrete in the mixer and then into moulds, and finally cured by the conventional methods.
Uses of Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete
- Highways
- Runways
- Manhole covers
- Door and window frames….and many others
Natural Fibre Reinforced Concrete (NFRC) – Due to the increased awareness of the damage caused to the environment by synthetic materials, led to the use of eco-friendly materials. Likewise, there has been an increased demand for natural fiber-based composites for different industries. Natural fibers being sustainable materials that are easily available in nature are used for cement reinforcement. This has the added advantages of being light in weight, low in cost, renewable, biodegradable, and strong.
Reinforced ready mix concrete is also more resistant to frost and corrosion. It is important to have reinforced ready mix concrete when you are building a structure that will be subjected to heavy loads. It is also used for a variety of purposes such as foundations, parking lots, and roadways. At SD Conmix, the state-of-the-art ready -mix concrete is manufactured using top-rated technology in the industry.
