SANDING AND SEALING OF WOODEN AND PARQUET FLOORS
Tips and advice on sanding and sealing parquet floors
This is a guide to follow. Please take the time to read and understand, and seek better advice if needed.
When you are finished installing your parquet or hardwood floor, start with 50 grit sandpaper and work diagonally across the floor, following the grain of the floor. parkett If sanding an old floor, use a lower 36 grit to remove the old finish. You can go all over the floor when removing the old varnish, but always finish by going diagonally across the floor with the grain. After sanding the floor once with a 50 grit sanding belt, round off the edges with the edge planer in 50 grit sanding disc. Then repeat the edges by working up the 50 grit, then 80 grit and finally 100 grit.
diagonally across
Go all over the floor with an 80 grit on the large belt sander and then repeat again with a 100 grit, always diagonally across the floor, switching diagonals each time to take it. So once in one direction, then up a grit and diagonally to the other. Once you have all of the soil down to 100 grit then fill it in. Mix resin putty with the sanding dust from the edge sander – it’s a finer dust. Then, using a spatula, fill the entire floor, making sure to push the spatula into the cracks “the more the merrier”. It is best to let it dry overnight or for three to four hours. Finish the floor with a 120 grit finishing abrasive, ensuring all filler is removed and sanding diagonally with the grit. When finished, clean the floor with a hover, cleaning any baseboards and window sills and making sure the dust is removed. Wait about half an hour for the dust to settle, and then tack the entire bottom with a duster or damp cloth.
Now ready for finishing I recommend a water based varnish like bona mega or similar or for high traffic areas bona traffic or similar. Start by applying the varnish to the edges with a brush, then roll out the varnish with a roller on a pole, use a short-haired roller and spread the varnish evenly. Do not leave large puddles of paint as this will show up and take longer to dry. Cover the entire floor and let it dry for about two hours. Repeat the process and cover the soil again using the same process and leave overnight. By morning the paint should be dry and ready for a light sanding preferably with a screen machine or a fine hand sanding of 150 grit or higher. Float clean and wipe with a clean cloth or damp cloth.
How to repair damaged parquet floors
Parquet floors offer very good thermal properties in places or countries where temperatures are very low all year round. Wood floors are not as cold as masonry or ceramic tile. If a home has hardwood floors it is good to note that water should not be poured as this will cause the hardwood floor to expand and curve upwards and will need to be removed. This type of flooring should only be cleaned with a damp mop or carpet, but never soaked.
The procedure for repairing or repairing damaged parquet floors is to remove the damaged parts with a scraper or carpenter’s knife. Once the area is open clean up the old traces of glue and if the area underneath was wet let it dry for a day. Select the spare parts, measure them correctly and fit them. Make sure these woods are sanded smooth before applying the glue and reattaching. Sanding down the patch after fixing it will damage the good part.
parquet floors
Parquet floors should be fixed to a dry masonry floor. When ready to replace, evenly apply the wood-to-masonry bonding adhesive with a comb-type spatula. Make sure the glue is evenly applied. Take the replacement and hit it evenly with a hammer, making sure no hammer marks appear on the wood. When you’re done, take a very smooth piece of sandpaper and rub off the excess glue. Once that’s done, take a sack of sand and drag it around the wood to smooth it out.
Check the type of polyurethane finish being used, whether it is a gloss finish or a matte finish, to ensure it matches the existing one. Apply the varnish in three different layers. The first and second can be done on the same day, but with a time difference of parkettboden about six hours. The top coat can be applied the next day. Put boxes around to avoid stepping on wet paint. After the last coat is applied and dry, apply wax to the entire floor to get an even paint color.
