An Overview of Varieties of Copper
It is not for nothing that copper has been described as the most important metal for centuries and is traded as a valuable raw material on the metal exchange. Without copper there is no electricity, no communication, no technological advances. Millions of copper pipes and copper cables ensure that the population is supplied with drinking water or electricity every day, and copper roofs protect against wind and weather. Due to its diverse properties, copper is one of the most useful materials, which can also be further optimized by alloying it with other metals.
How Do I Recognize Copper?
Copper has a reddish-gold lustrous surface and when it oxidizes, it forms a greenish-black patina. It is non-magnetic, rustproof and easily deformable.
Where Is Copper Found?
Due to its excellent conductive properties, copper is used in electrical installations and cables. Copper is often used in roof construction because, thanks to the resulting patina layer, it protects the copper sheet from further corrosion and has a very long service life. In addition, gutters, roofs, heating pipes and welding nozzles are often made of copper. Copper is also found in works of art and coins. Innate Enterprises is one of well renowned manufacturers and Copper Wire Wholesale provider in Pakistan.
We divide the types of copper into 4 categories, descending from the best quality:
- Copper Millberry – Blank I
- Copper Candle – Blank II
- Copper Heavy-Berry And
- Mixed Copper
The varieties differ mainly in the purity of the material.
Millberry – Copper Plain I
The highest quality Millberry variety has a copper content of 99.99% and consists exclusively of copper wires that are at least 1 mm thick. The copper must be bare, pure and shiny red-gold-yellow. It must not be oxidized, i.e., have a black-greenish patina layer or be covered with oil, grease or varnish. Millberry is most commonly found as peeled copper wire. Copper Millberry is bright, pure and lustrous red-gold. It consists of wires that are at least 1 mm thick.
Candle – copper blank II
Copper candles are also 99% bare copper, but in a different form to wire – i.e., sheets, tubes, bars, stamping waste, etc. Wires that are too thin for Millberry are also classified here. Examples of this are sheet metal or waste such as copper pipes or bare copper rails. Copper candle is 99% bare copper.
Copper Heavy – Berry, Catenary
Heavy Copper, also known as Copper Berry, is old or oxidized copper and has a copper content of at least 98%. The copper can therefore show corrosion residues – the oxidation layer is greenish to black. However, the copper of this type must not have any other adhesions such as oil, paint, grease, etc. and should be at least 5 mm thick. This primarily includes oxidized and tarnished wires and overhead lines, but also large workpieces. Copper Heavy Is Old, Oxidized Copper 98%
Mixed Copper – Copper Raff
“Mixed” copper or copper raff is oxidized or contaminated copper that has already been used. This is the only type of copper that may have adhesions or soldering points and may be covered with grease, varnish, oil or the like. The usable copper content must be at least 95%. The material may show a green to black patina or oxidation layer due to weathering. Examples of this are oxidized gutters, sheet metal or enameled wire.
Mixed copper is old, oxidized copper with buildup. It may be contaminated with paint, grease and oil. The copper content must be at least 95%.
How much is copper worth?
The demand is growing because copper can be used in many different ways. The conductivity of copper can only be surpassed by silver, making it the ideal material. Copper can be recycled very easily without any loss of quality. This process can also be repeated as often as you like. Therefore, significant energy resources can be saved in the recycling of metals, which would be incurred in the primary extraction in mining and in the transport of the ores. Recycling can save scarce resources and at the same time reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions. Our motto: recycle instead of throwing away!
How much do I get for 1 kg of copper?
1 kg of pure copper is between 11000 to 12000 Pkr on average4 – 6 euros on average. However, the actual price depends on the daily developments on the London Metal Exchange, i.e., the stock exchange. As with all metals, the purer the material, the more amenable it is to recycling and the higher the price of copper sales.
