Latest African news: Africa is experiencing COVID disease outbreaks
Virologists told why dangerous diseases often appear in Africa
In one south Sudan state, 89 people have died of an unknown illness in the past few weeks. At the same time, local authorities announced many deaths from the disease; they can’t able to establish nature.
According to the latest African news, the epicentre of the disease was identified in the city of Fangak. The disease assumes to be cholera since cases of the disease were recorded in places where you find the strongest flooding in the last 60 years. His victims were more than 700 thousand people. However, the information was not confirmed.
The World Health Organization sent specialists to Jonglei State, where they find the first death case, to investigate the situation.
Homeland of diseases
In Africa, new diseases often appear or mutations of existing viruses occur. The continent has already given the world two new strains of coronavirus – “beta” and “omicron”. Malaria is also common in Africa, from which 260,000 people died in 2019.
In February of this year, a new deadly virus appeared in Tanzania, in which patients experienced dizziness and nausea with bloody vomiting. At the same time, a new outbreak of Ebola occurred on the mainland. With it, the patient’s temperature rises, weakness, muscle pain, dizziness, and sore throat appear. Symptoms develop into a dry cough, dehydration, diarrhea, vomiting, and impaired liver and kidney function. In the summer, they found a case of infection with Marburg fever on the west coast of Africa.
The abundance of viruses is easy to explain: in Africa, there are favorable conditions for their development. Infectious disease specialist Yuri Vengerov reminded “360” that on the continent there is a high temperature and high humidity. So preserve microbes in a better way in the external environment than in countries with a cold climate, where they are waiting for a quick death. The expert doctor also added the low standard of living and poor medicine is the main reason for the reproduction of viruses.
The situation is worsened by the local fauna, for example, the abundance of insects that carry dangerous diseases. Last but not least is the funeral traditions in the countries that caused the spread of Ebola: during burial, mourners must touch the corpse.
It is not profitable to develop vaccines for rare diseases that are endemic in one region, but the WHO and the Red Cross supply countries with antibiotics and other drugs to fight infections.
Experts told the rules should be followed to protect the health if a trip to Africa is inevitable according to the latest Breaking News.
When visiting the continent, you need to take preventive antimalarial drugs and not buy food and water on the street, the infectious disease specialist concluded.
