What are the Different Types of Lung Cancer?
You might have seen the Breaking Bad TV series. The main protagonist Walter White is suffering from Lung Cancer. But what is lung cancer? The cancerous growth in the lungs is called Lung Cancer. There are numerous reasons why one gets lung cancer even after leading a healthy life or having an unhealthy life. Just like the multiple reasons, there are numerous types of Lung Cancer. Each cancer type is different and comes with varied treatment options and survival chances. #1 – Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer or according to the Oncologists, NSCLC is one of the most common types of lung cancer. It causes Adenocarcinogenic tumors in the lung and is commonly caused by smoking cigarettes. The majority of the Non-Small Cell lung cancer patients are either active smokers or former smokers. According to recent research, people exposed to second-hand smoking are some of the biggest victims and the patients of the NSCLC. This type of cancer is common amongst females than males, and it is diagnosed pretty easily in the early stages.
#2 – Small Cell Lung Cancer
Oncologists also refer to small Cell Lung Cancer as Oat Cell cancer. The cancer cells are shaped like Oats, thus the name. Small Cell Lung Cancer is quite common and usually starts at the bronchi. After starting, it takes no time to spread to the other parts of the lung and causes massive tumors. Almost all of the patients who suffer from Small Cell Lung Cancer are Tobacco smokers. Usually, this type of lung cancer responds very well to Radiation and Chemotherapy. But Small Cell Lung Cancer reverts in a few years after the patient has been declared free from cancer. The life expectancy in Small Cell Lung Cancer is pretty high.
#3 – Metastatic Lung Cancer
Metastatic Lung Cancer is the form of cancer that has been spread to the lungs from the other part of the body. Be it the brain tumor, bone cancer, or breast cancer; it reaches the Metastatic stage; it reaches the other parts of the body. When the patient suffers from the other type of cancer, the cancer cells reach and affect the lung. Metastatic cancer is pretty rare and only possible in the case of last-stage cancer patients. The life expectancy rate for Metastatic lung cancer is very low.
