“No curtains, showering and changing clothes” US track and field athlete expresses outrage
Outside Shari Hawkins’ window, other players are seen hanging flags on their respective windows. On the right, Hawkins is seen hanging a towel on her window.
There have been criticisms that the 2024 Paris Olympics athletes’ village accommodations lack curtains.
According to NBC’s Today Show and other sources on the 29th (local time), US track and field athlete Shari Hawkins uploaded a video to TikTok introducing her athletes’ village room.
She showed the national flags of each country hanging on the windows of her accommodations and said, “This is amazing. This is so fun. There are no curtains.”
Hawkins said, “I finally have some privacy,” as he attached a large towel provided by the Olympic organizing committee to his window. He explained that the towel, which he uses instead of a curtain, does not stay on the window for long, and that, “When I get out of the shower or change clothes, I put this towel on and get dressed as quickly as possible. Otherwise, the towel falls off.”
There were also complaints about the lack of bathrooms for the number of people in the accommodations. U.S. tennis player Coco Gauff introduced her room and roommates in the athletes’ village on TikTok, saying, “There are two bathrooms for 10 female athletes.”
This Olympics, which emphasizes eco-friendliness, did not install air conditioning in the athletes’ village and provided a vegetarian-based diet. There have been complaints among the athletes about the sweltering heat and poor diet.
The U.S. basketball team even rented an entire luxury hotel in Paris with 800 rooms, refusing to enter the athletes’ village. 안전놀이터
