How to Access the Network in Your Firewall or Antivirus Settings?

If you use Google Chrome as your primary browser, you may encounter some network-related errors from time to time. One of these errors is to Allow Chrome to access the network in your firewall or antivirus settings. As a Chrome user, you may have encountered a lot of errors. One of the error messages is that allow chrome to access the network in your firewall.

However, antivirus or anti-malware programs sometimes prevent Chrome browser from accessing the Internet despite all these security measures. This is because they have encountered some threats while monitoring your online activity.

The malfunction in DNS settings can also be the reason for the error. In this case, the primary error may appear as ‘DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG’. So how do you allow Chrome to access the network in your firewall or antivirus settings?

This error can occur due to network-related issues, and the reason may vary from user to user. However, your web browser displays the error if it detects that your antivirus or firewall blocks the connection.

1. Add Chrome to Windows Firewall

  • Press Windows Key + R to open Run.

  • Type Control and then click on OK. This will open the Control Panel.

  • Click on System and Security.

  • Click Windows Defender Firewall.

  • From the left pane, click Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall Option.

  • Click the Change Settings button. Click Yes, if prompted by the UAC.

  • Click the Allow another app button at the end.

  • Navigate to the following location:

  • C: Program Files (x86) GoogleChromeApplication

  • Select chrome.exe and click Open.

  • Click Add

  • Be sure to check the Private and Public boxes.
  • Right-click on OK to save the changes.
  • Launch Google Chrome and try using the browser. If the error occurred due to Windows Firewall blocking the connection, you should now connect without any error.

2. Add an exception to the antivirus firewall

  • Avast Web Shield Launch Avast Antivirus if it is not running. You can start it from the hidden menu on the taskbar.
  • Click Avast Settings.
  • Select Avast Protections.
  • Click the Personalization link next to Web Shield. This will open a new window.
  • From the left panel, click the Exclusions option.
  • Enter the URL of the website blocked by the antivirus, resulting in an error in the URLs to exclude the field.
  • Click Add to add the URL.
  • Right-click on OK to save the changes.
  • Open Chrome and try to access the website and check for improvements. If the problem persists, disable the Web Shield temporarily and then check for improvements. To disable Web Shield, go to Active Protection and toggle the switch for Web Shield to disable protection.

3. Add an exception to Windows Defender

  • For Windows 1

  • Click Start and select Settings.

  • Click Update & Security.

  • Click the Open Windows Security button.

  • In the Windows Security window, click the Virus and threat protection tab in the left pane.

  • Scroll down to Virus & Threat Protection and click Manage Settings.

  • Again, scroll down to the Exclusion section.

  • Click the Add / Remove Exclusion option.

  • Then click the Add an exclusion button and select Folder.

  • Navigate to the following location:

  • C: Program Files (x86)

  • Select the Google folder and click Select Folder.

  • Right-click on OK to save the changes.

For Windows 7

  • Press Windows Key + R to open Run.

  • Go to System Settings and Security and search for Windows Defender.
  • Click Tools (top panel). This will open Tools and Settings.
