Deepak Maharaj, Renowned Kathak Exponent, Joins AAFT as Director of School of Performing Arts
Noida :AAFT School of Performing Arts proudly announces the appointment of Deepak Maharaj as the Director of the School. Deepak Maharaj, son of the legendary Kathak devotee Padam Vibhushan Briju Maharaj, brings his immense talent and expertise to this esteemed position. The President of AAFT, Sandeep Marwah, expressed his delight at this significant addition to the institution.
As the scion of the renowned Kathak dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj and a master of the illustrious Lucknow Kalka-Bindadin gharana of Kathak, Deepak Maharaj carries the weight of his legacy with great responsibility. He stated, “I am honored to be a part of AAFT, an international seat of learning, where we can promote Indian art and culture to its best.”
Deepak Maharaj is widely known for his impeccable conduct both on and off the stage. As an eighth-generation dancer, he has captivated audiences with numerous solo shows and remarkable performances in dance dramas choreographed by Birju Maharaj. His rendition of “Romeo and Juliet,” a Kathak adaptation of Shakespeare’s timeless love story created by Saswati Sen, garnered widespread acclaim during its recent staging in the United States.
AAFT, in collaboration with the International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry, has been wholeheartedly dedicated to promoting art and culture worldwide. Deepak Maharaj’s association with the institution adds another feather to AAFT’s cap.
