The Casino Effect: Why Women Love Bad Boys Versus Nice Guys
Many women are more attracted to bad boys than nice guys. Some will say it’s just because bad boys are exciting, and nice guys too boring. This might be the case, but I think there’s something more going on. What I call “the Casino Effect” is what I think causes this.
To explain the Casino Effect, I will describe two situations that we have all experienced. Then I will show you how these two situations are related to the bad guy/nice guy condition. You will gain a better understanding of the Casino Effect and how it affects both nice guys and bad boys.
First, you can dine at a place that you’ve been to before and enjoyed. They enjoy returning to good restaurants. If someone had a positive experience in the past, they expect that future experiences will be similar. This expectation is usually met (say, 9 times out of 10). The food is delicious and hot, and the service is friendly. On the 10th occasion, something goes wrong. It could be the food, service, or a child screaming in the booth next to you. It’s always something that makes the experience bad.
We tend to focus on this unpleasant experience because it was unexpected. We are programmed to focus on negative experiences. It was necessary for our species to survive. This allowed us to adapt to new situations that developed.
When the person is asked to go back to the restaurant, they will immediately remember all of the bad times and forget the good ones. The person may return, but their attention will be focused on everything that went wrong. This will reduce their enjoyment. Next time the place is mentioned, it’s likely that someone will express their dissatisfaction. The person may mention that the place was once good, but is now bad or that they had a horrible time there the last time. This change in perspective will ultimately destroy their ability even to enjoy the location. They will eventually stop going.
Second, gaming in a casino. My family has a history of gaming, so I am familiar with the situation. Everybody knows that the odds are always against them when they visit a casino. Although they may claim they are expecting to win, the truth is that they know their odds. The majority of people (again, let’s say 9 out of 10 times) lose money in a casino. They win big on the 10th occasion.
People focus on the few times when they win at a casino because it is outside of their expectations 우리카지노. The Casino Effect’s key concept is that we tend to focus on things that are outside of our expectations. People exaggerate when they win. People never mention the times when they have lost, only the times that they have won.
The Casino Effect has the same principle: Anything that is outside of our expectations, whether good or bad will be magnified. In the restaurant, it was a few bad experiences. And in the casino, it was a few big wins. Let’s now look at the nice guy versus bad boy situation.
Let’s start with the nice guy. A woman who is dating a nice man will find that he does most things right. He will do many things, such as open doors, purchase flowers, and listen. This is what women expect from good guys.
It is inevitable that the nice guy (and we all are guilty of this at some stage) will make a mistake.
The woman is not expecting the nice guy to make a mistake. The same thing happens as in the restaurant example. She will magnify the mistake to the point that it will be all she thinks about. She will start to doubt not only his actions, but also the relationship. This spiral creates a downward trend that ends most relationships.
Now let’s look at the bad boys. Women who date bad boys are usually aware of what they’re getting themselves into. They know they may be treated badly. They don’t expect to get all the nice things that a nice guy might do.
Every bad boy does something nice every now and then. Unexpectedly, a bad boy will bring her flowers or take her to a nice place. The same procedure applies as in the casino example. When a woman is dating a bad boy, she usually loses. But every now and then she wins big. Because these pleasant things are outside of her expectations, she will magnify and focus on them.
The reason why women prefer bad guys over nice guys is not because of what they do. The women who date them have expectations. They are influenced by their expectations to prefer bad boys over nice guys.
