Mahendra Singh Dhoni, popularly known as MS Dhoni, is a former Indian cricketer and captain of the Indian national cricket team. He is considered as one of the most successful captain in ODI cricket.

His father, Pan Singh, was a Maithili-speaking Far-western Zone (now called Lumbini Zone) of Nepal and his mother, Devaki Devi, is a Hindi-speaking Bihari. Dhoni has a sister, Jayanti Gupta, and a brother, Narendra Singh Dhoni. He attended DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi, where he initially excelled in badminton and football and was selected at district and club level in these sports. Dhoni was a goalkeeper for his football team and was sent to play cricket for a local cricket club by his football coach. Though he had not played cricket, he was excited to try it out. When he was given out stumped, he began to cry and had to be consoled by his parents.
