Reclaiming Siddhis of Motherhood through Yoga | HUA
The Yoga of Motherhood Course offers an exploration of motherhood through the lens of the yogic tradition. It aims to help mothers become more self-aware and develop their natural abilities to heal themselves and their children, promoting a culture of care and community. The course covers the concept of motherhood from a liberatory perspective, as well as the 5 koshas with a focus on the pranamaya kosha (the sheath of lifeforce), and the vital realm as understood by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Additionally, the course examines the connection between historical traumas and disease and teaches ways that mothers can foster supportive communities.
The course objectives are as follows:
- a) Understand the yogic concept of motherhood from a liberatory perspective.
- b) Learn about the 5 koshas, with a particular focus on the pranamaya kosha and its impact on our health and vitality.
- c) Deepen understanding of the pranamaya kosha as ‘the vital’ according to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Learn how traumas, karmas, ancestors, external influences, and our own unprocessed emotions affect our lives and those of our children.
- d) Expand consciousness as mothers, cultivating our innate abilities and siddhis to be present for our own emotional, mental, and physical needs, as well as those of our children. Engage in simple yogic techniques to access this expanded consciousness.
- e) Recognize the fundamental connection between historical traumas and disease.
- f) Build confidence, inner vitality, and health as mothers, while also creating communities of care.
The course is designed to be interactive and engaging, with at least 1.5 hours of contact time with faculty each week. It encourages self-study and reflection, promoting discussion during the weekly class. Each week, students receive course materials such as readings, videos, and other resources to deepen their understanding of the topics. During class, students are given the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions.
The course is conducted in a safe, inclusive space that fosters sharing and discovery. Students are encouraged to share their own experiences and perspectives on the course topics and to engage in discussions with their classmates.
