5 Top Features of the 2021 Mazda BT-50 Ute
We’ve been anxiously awaiting the 2021 Mazda BT-50, and now it’s here. Once you learn about the top features of this ute, we think you’ll be looking for a BT-50 for sale in Melbourne right away.
Ute, But Not Too Ute
There were some fears that Mazda was just going to take an SUV design and just plop it on a ute chassis and call it good. We’re pleased to say that did not happen, and one of the best things about this Mazda is that it looks and drives like a true ute, yet it retains good styling. It might not be too much to say that this is the most stylish ute available in 2021. There’s no disconnect in the styling from front to back: it’s all seamless no matter what angle you look at it from.
Lots of Tech
Mazda has been more than generous with their tech. There are all kinds of goodies available on the base model trim that other manufacturers would charge you extra for or only make available on the higher trims. Whatever trim you choose, you’ll be getting alarm and engine immobilizer, anti-lock braking and electronic brake-force distribution, ISOFIX connectors, stability control, traction control, hill launch assist, hill descent assist, and eight airbags. As for driver assistance features, all trims also offer goodies like a blind-zone warning, autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors and back-up cameras, keyless entry and remote start, sat-nav, smartphone integration for both Apple and Android phones, lane-keep assist, and more. There are a few things that you have to pay extra for or which only come standard on higher trims, but a lot less than with competitors’ offerings.
Good Fuel Consumption
You don’t really think of good fuel economy and “ute” in the same sentence very often, but the BT-50 turns expectations on their head. The 3.0-litre turbo-diesel, four-cylinder engine is paired with either a six-speed auto transmission or a six-speed automatic, though only the automatic is available for the 4×2 variants. This engine gets you 7.7L/100km, and those numbers hold up in real-world driving conditions. These aren’t just numbers on paper that only exist is some unrealistic, ideal driving world.
Nice Interior
The interior of this ute simply looks and feels nice. There’s room in the back–both for heads and knees. There is dual-zone climate control on the higher trims, a clear, easy-to-read infotainment system, soft vinyl across the dash, and options for leather-accented seats. The GT trim has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift. All trims have two ISOFIX child seat mounts or room for two top-tether seats.
Good Power
This is an excellent mid-range ute, with plenty of power for the average family. It performs smoothly even when unladen at highway speeds, and it betrays no nervousness or imbalance at low speeds. While it doesn’t fly off the line from stops, it has good torque and can handle a 1,095kg payload with 3,500kg braked towing capacity. The BT-50 has some great features: enough that we’d recommend trying one out for yourself.
