What are the Different types of Metaverse?
The metaverse concept is being used more and more every day, in a previous article we reviewed in detail what metaverses are.
I bring you in this article the most important examples of metaverses with their main characteristics so that you can explore them and identify which one you like best.
1. Metaverse Second Life (SL)
- Linden Lab launched Second Life in 2003, it is a completely three-dimensional virtual world that has a behavior similar to a social network since it allows thousands of avatars to interact with each other.
Second Life users can access the virtual world through the use of an interface program that allows them to interact with each other through an avatar. Users can explore the virtual world, interact with other users, establish social relationships, and participate in various activities (individual or group). Metaverse Development Company also allows you to create and market virtual properties and offer services between users. Second Life users must be over 18 years of age and it has more than 70 million registered accounts, but less than a million are active users.
The currency in SL is the Linden Dollar and with it, you can buy avatars, properties, digital houses, furniture, clothes and much more. There are currently 345 million annual transactions in Second Life that exceed 80 million dollars paid to creators each year.
Many multinational companies have acquired a second presence in the virtual world of SL, such as Coca-Cola, Reebok, Dell, General Motors, Intel, Microsoft, Nissan, Sony, BMG, Wells Fargo Bank, and many others have businesses and advertising in this virtual economy.
2.Metaverse Decentraland
- Decentraland is a decentralized Ethereum-based virtual reality (3D virtual world) metaverse released in 2020 that is similar to Second Life.
Users can perform a wide variety of actions such as buying plots of land, building on them, and also selling them, to obtain MANA tokens.
The world of Decentraland is divided into plots of 16 x 16 meters, if we buy several neighboring plots you can create a farm.
Genesis plaza is a beautiful virtual plaza in the center of the map and allows visitors to learn more about Decentraland: its history, how to navigate and which places are hot at the moment.
3. Metaverse OVR
- OVR is a decentralized augmented reality (AR) metaverse based on Ethereum. Metaverse Development Solutions allows mobile or smart glasses to have interactive experiences of augmented reality applied to the real world.
In this metaverse, the user does not choose the content through personalized searches, but rather, according to their geographical position, the user is exposed to specific experiences.
OVR has hexagonal parcels that cover the entire planet earth that can be traded in a market similar to real estate in the physical world. Each owner chooses the experience that the user located in that place will have when the application is opened. Sponsorships may be included in the experiences that will generate income for the owners of the plots.
4. Other metaverses
The Sandbox
The Sandbox is a decentralized metaverse built on the Ethereum blockchain focused on the world of gaming. This platform allows developers to monetize gaming experiences, as well as create art galleries or other assets that allow creators to generate passive income. Users interact in a huge virtual world, quite similar to the famous Minecraft video game. The Sandbox can export the models made in Minecraft to its land.
The digital economy of The Sandbox has grown significantly. As of November 2021, a total of 126,313 sales have been held, with a volume exceeding $146.8 million. It is important to note that The Sandbox has more than 18,280 unique active users.
Axie Infinity
Axie Infinity is a metaverse using Ethereum-based cryptocurrency. It is a trading and fighting game that allows players to collect, breed, battle, and trade creatures known as “axis,” which are digitized as NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
This Metaverse has more than 1.2 million active users and has had sales in the order of 3.4 billion dollars. In February 2021, crypto investor Flying Falcon paid $1.5 million for the Genesis estate within Axie Infinity.
Dream Space
Somnium Space is a decentralized virtual reality (VR) metaverse built on the Ethereum blockchain. This metaverse allows users to purchase land, houses, digital buildings, and a host of valuable in-game assets from their virtual world.
In this metaverse, more than 5,700 digital objects have been traded, their sales have exceeded 110.7 million dollars.
Star Atlas
Star Atlas is a decentralized virtual reality metaverse that was built on the Solana blockchain. This is a space-themed metaverse focused on the MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) experience.
This metaverse Store Development Company offers environments with high-quality graphics. According to CoinMarketCap, Star Atlas moves about $48 million a day with its ATLAS token.
Marten is a centralized metaverse created by the creators of Second Life Linden Lab. This new platform features improved graphics, support for virtual reality headsets, and improved content creation tools.
This metaverse is similar to the one in Second Life. It is enough to create an account, download the viewer and enter one of the existing regions or design your own through the creation tool. People who enter can move freely with their avatars. In Sansar, you can customize the avatar with any of the free clothes available or with paid items. The currency of this metaverse is called Sansar Dollars.
5. Metaverses under construction
Blocktopia
Bloktopia is a decentralized VR Metaverse that will bring an immersive experience to its users. This metaverse is a 21-story building that looks like a shopping center, where users can live different experiences and generate real value.
Bloktopia will launch its beta version in March 2022 where it will allow its users to play, socialize, be entertained, trade property and land among others.
