Visa & legal formalities
To Wed in Sri Lanka, the couple must be over the legal age of 18 on the day of the wedding. Further, the birth certificates of the bride and groom must be brought to the country. Foreign weddings are required to be registered with the wedding registrar’s office/divisional secretariat of the area where the wedding is to take place.
Once the wedding has taken place, the wedding certificate (and its English translation) is required to be certified by the Consular Affairs Section of the Ministry of External Affairs in Sri Lanka. If you fail to do so, then the certificate will not be considered valid outside Sri Lanka.
