Jabal-e-Soor The Holy Ziyarat of Makkah

At the foot of the city of Makah is a mountain called Jabal-e-Soor. Pilgrims go there during Hajj and Umrah because this mountain is very important to Islam. Something stung Abu Bakr’s (R.A) foot out of the blue, but he didn’t move because he was afraid he would wake the Prophet (peace be upon him). The pain was so bad that tears started to roll down his cheeks and into the face of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Abu Bakr (R.A.) was in pain when the Prophet (peace be upon him) woke up. He spit on the hurt area, and the pain went away. The Prophet (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr (R.A.) stayed hidden in the cave for three nights.

During this time, Abdullah, the son of Abu Bakr (R.A. ), would spend his nights close to. The young man would go back to Makkah very early in the morning so that the Quraish wouldn’t know he had slept somewhere else. Every day in Makah, he wrote down what the Quraish were doing, and every night, he went back to Jabl-e-Soor to tell the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his father Abu Bakr about what had happened (R.A). Amir bin Fuhayra, Abu Bakr’s (R.A.) slave, would let Abu Bakr’s (R.A.) goats graze near the cave so that both men could drink milk. To hide his tracks, Amir would take the goats back to Makah early the next morning along the same path that Abu Bakr’s (R.A) son had taken. When they were inside, Allah made a spider spin a web across the entrance to the cave from a bush.

Allah Almighty also told two doves to fly down between the spider and the tree, build a nest, and lay eggs. The Quraish search party looked for the Prophet (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr (R.A.) in the area south of Makkah where they were hiding. They found the cave’s entrance. If they had looked down while standing at the cave’s edge, they would have seen the men they were looking for. Abu Bakr (R.A.) worried about the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) safety because the Quraish were so close to finding out where they were hiding. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gives him back his faith by saying, “How can you worry about two when there is a third, especially when the third one is Allah Almighty?” When the Quraish looked at the spider’s web and the dove’s nest, they decided that no one could have gone into the cave and come out again.

In Surah Tobah, the Quran talks about this scene: “If you don’t help your leader, it doesn’t matter, because Allah Almighty did help him when the Unbelievers drove him out. He had only one friend, and the two of them were in a cave. He told his friend, “Don’t be afraid, because Allah Almighty is with us.” Then, Allah sent down His peace on him, strengthened him with forces you didn’t see, and made the word of the Un But Allah Almighty’s word is glorious to the highest heights, because Allah Almighty is the most powerful and wise. After three days, when they heard that the Quraish had given up their search, they left the cave and went to Yasrib, which is now called Madinah.
