CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN BHAGAVAD GEETA THROUGH SANSKRIT (BGTS) | HINDU UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA

The Hindu University of America’s certificate program in Bhagavad Gita through Sanskrit provides a four-year intensive study program that prepares beginning students, i.e., without prior fluency or knowledge of Sanskrit, to achieve knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita through Sanskrit (samskritam). In this program, faculty will guide students verse by verse through the Bhagavad Gita, simultaneously revealing both the meanings of the verses and the nuances of the language. This program aims to enable students to study the Bhagavadgeeta directly without translation or mediation and gain proficiency in conversational Sanskrit, i.e. the ability to speak fluently and understand easily. At the end of this program, students will be able to easily access other shastras in Sanskrit on their own.
This program represents a core curriculum for students of all ages, from high school onwards. It is aimed at beginning students with a passion to learn a new language as well as those who want to engage with the Bhagavad Geeta in its original language. No previous knowledge of Sanskrit is assumed, apart from knowledge of the Devanagari script. The medium of instruction will be fully in Sanskrit with some help in English so that students can learn quickly. Students who have some familiarity with Devanagari Script and any Indian language (Bharatiya Bhasha) will find it easier to access this program.
