Does your morning routine have you feeling like the movie “Groundhog Day”? If you are feeling dull and uninspired, perhaps you need to change up your routine for optimal success. Check out these 7 steps to a morning routine that will change your life!
Ever feel that you have been re-living the movie “Groundhog Day” for a majority of your life? Studies show that 80% of North Americans admit that they feel stuck in an unsatisfying routine”. Your morning routine could either make or break the outcome of how successful your day goes.
We are creatures of habit, so we may as well create a routine that has the habit of bringing us the results that we desire!
The problem is, what are we supposed to do to have a good morning routine? How early do we have to get up? How do we know if what we are doing is actually going to benefit us?
Below is a list of the top 7-morning routine habits that could possibly change your life. Read on!
1. Create a List the Night Before
What do you want to have accomplished? It is important to think long-term as well as short-term, however, short-term is what you are needing to accomplish for the next day. Your list needs to be simplified and not overwhelming, or else you will feel defeated and that you did not get much done at the end of the day.
Break one longterm list into smaller, more detailed lists, then set out to achieve these small lists daily. This helps you understand your long-term goals and see a route to achieving them.
Write down your list the old-fashioned way, with paper and pen. Nothing stimulates the subconscious memory better than the act of physically writing something down.
2. Start Earlier
The key to a great morning routine is to get up at a time that you have all to yourself. This is YOUR time to focus on what you want or need without distractions.
The biggest roadblock that people have with getting up that early is that they have a hard time waking up when they go to bed so late. The answer to this? Force yourself to get up early a few days in a row at 5 am, then you will not be able to stay awake past 9 or 10 pm.
3. Write a Gratitude List
Gratitude is in every list from every successful entrepreneur, and it is for a good reason. Gratitude actually changes the chemistry of your brain. It releases chemicals to make you feel more peaceful, less resistant and less reactive.
Write a list of the top ten things in your life that you are grateful for, every damn day. Write this list in the morning before you start your day, this lowers the chance of anything else taking you down and lowering your mood. When you are in a strong sense of gratitude, it is like a superpower. Nothing can take you down, you are currently in “captain gratitude” mode.
4. Schedule Your Day
This is similar, but a bit different than your to-do list. Set up your whole day with a schedule, this includes breaks, lunch, time on your phone, exercise, and stillness. Write out every half hour or even 15-minute blocks of time.
5. Wake Up and Meditate
Meditation is another key component that is in the morning routine of every successful person on the planet. This is where you get to recharge, clear your mind, and listen to your inner guidance. When your mind is in reactive mode, it becomes clouded and is hard to keep focused on the task. Mindfulness is key, and it will change your life.
6. Exercise
You know that awesome feeling you get after exercise when endorphins are rushing through your body and you feel inspired to take on anything? Yes, that is exactly why I say exercise first thing in the morning. Even a brisk powerwalk with some stretching. When the blood is pumping through your body, it can create a plethora of incredible mental health benefits as well as the physical!
7. Learn Something
This includes reading a few pages out of your current book or listening to a podcast on a subject you are currently into. You could also take some time to learn a new language or a new hobby. When you are constantly learning, your mind is expanding. Learning a new skill is also an incredible way to build true confidence.
