6 Famous Movies Shot in Atlanta

Georgia has been termed the "Hollywood of the South"—and this isn\'t even an exaggeration. While the scenic landscapes and exceptional suburbs of Atlanta have always made this city an eye-candy for art directors—the city has recently seen an unprecedented boom in film production.

According to statistics revealed by the state of Georgia, 320 TV and film productions were shot in Georgia, accumulating to an economic impact worth $9.5 billion in 2017.

Film Production in Georgia—the Turn-Around

This massive turnaround in film production investments results from the state\'s benevolent grant of 30% tax credits on all kinds of production in Georgia. According to the Entertainment Industry Investment Act of Georgia, the state provides 30% tax credits to whoever makes television series, feature films, commercials, and music videos in Georgia.

The film production companies get a 20% tax credit for investing a minimum of $500,000 on production and post-production. An additional 10% tax credit is provided if the final product contains the state\'s promotional logo.

This reform has managed to invite major prospects of film production for the biggest showbiz entertainment industry in the world—with countless TV and film productions taking the neighborhoods of Atlanta by storm.

While some movies shot in this city were caught under the rubble and couldn\'t make their way up the box-office charts—few of them managed to make the prestigious nomination of the Academy Awards.
