13 Most Creepiest Spiders In Gaming
Most people are afraid of spiders at least a little bit, but if they have to fight them, that fear could definitely get worse.
Spiders are one of the things that most people are afraid of. People have been putting spiders in bad roles in stories for a very long time. This is because spiders have a lot of eyes, legs, and different ways of moving. The cycle of scary spider characters has kept going in video games, and anyone can tell you that there are a lot of spider monsters in games.
In games like Skyrim, Dragon Age, and more, killing caves full of giant spiders has become pretty boring. But what kinds of spiders still creep us out? Here are the ten most scary spiders from video games. Also, spider-phobes should stay away from this list.
Choo-Choo Charles: Charles
Choo-Choo Charles is a scary Spider beast that is based on a meme in a strange way and became a bit of a viral sensation. Charles is a flesh-eating machine that eats anyone who steps foot on the island of Araneum. He is part train engine and part evil spider.
He’s always there in Choo-Choo Charles, and you can’t kill him until the very end. So each fight is a hard fight to stay alive as you try to run away or deal enough damage to scare him off. Charles’s creepy, haunting train peeps in the dark woods and unnaturally fast speed make him a spider that you will probably dream about.
Last Year: After Dark – Spider Fiend
Even though Last Year: After Dark came out and then disappeared, their approach to Big Spider could be the most disturbing yet. Arachnophobia is a fear of spiders, and the spider they used is a scary, fast-moving creature that represents that fear.
This big beast’s slash attacks do a lot of damage, and its venom projectiles do direct damage and double the damage of any following swing. Also, to help her move around, the Spider can shoot out a strand of web that zips quickly toward objects, cryptids, or other players. She’s also very hard to find because her model blends in with the darkness too well and she has a hole in the ground where she can hide that will make anyone jump when she jumps out.
Total War: Warhammer 3 – Arachnaroks
The other spiders here are bad guys, but the Arachnaroks in Total War: Warhammer 3 are big, friendly guys. That is, if you’re an Orc. Still, they look like scary giants that could easily swallow a fully armored knight on horseback, horse and all.
Even though they are slow, their size more than makes up for their lack of speed. They often have archers on platforms built onto their backs, and there are different kinds of them based on where they live. They are the best monsters an Orc army can have, and it’s hard to stop them when they break through the lines.
Ōkami: The Spider Queen
The first boss you face in kami is one of the scariest. She is more than just a spider, just like kami. She is based on a Japanese mythical creature called a Jorgumo, which are basically women spiders.
She does, however, have eight legs, a round belly, and a big set of fangs, just like any other spider. But she has human hands on the ends of her legs and long black hair on her head. It’s the stuff of nightmares and a strange but memorable part of a cult classic game that was already beautiful.
Darksiders: Silitha
Silitha is a boss in Darksiders. She is also called the Brood Mother, which is a good name because she has a lot of children. People are afraid of spiders in part because a single spider can have a lot of babies, and this character definitely plays up that part of arachnophobia.
She is different from other big spider monsters because she can talk. Silitha keeps making fun of the main character while they fight, taunting and provoking him to make you mad and frustrated. The jabber-jabber makes her less scary and more like a Saturday morning cartoon villain, which takes away from her overall creepiness. But there are a few lines that are scary enough to make you think twice about her.
Dark Souls 2: The Duke’s Dear Freja
In the Dark Souls games, there are a lot of scary monsters that look like spiders, but this one is the worst. Her battles aren’t too hard, but her Spider children and the lasers that come out of both ends of her can be very annoying. But the really interesting part is the story behind it.
Folklore says that Freja used to be a pet, and while it could be argued that she has some connection to Seathe the Scaleless, she is no longer a pet. Over time, she got much bigger and had a lot of baby spiders, which ate and turned into zombies the people in the town above her lair. Overall, it wasn’t very good, but it was very Dark Souls.
Grounded
Grounded knows how scary spiders can be, so it has a mode for people who are afraid of them called “Arachnophobia.” It’s a good idea to use it. This mode makes the spiders look like soft blobs, which is a great idea since the spiders look very real and often appear out of nowhere. Which can always make you jump out of your skin.
It’s not all bad, though, because Grounded is a fun game to play if you like spiders because it shows how different types of spiders act. But they are very dangerous and can do a lot of damage with their skinny legs. So stay far away or turn and run if they start to chase you, because if you don’t you’ll quickly end up in Respawn Screen City.
Resident Evil HD Remaster: Black Tiger
Some scary games have a lot of mutated spiders, so it was only natural that Resident Evil would have at least one. The Arachnid encounter in RE2 is the original scary scene and a fan favorite. It takes place in a room full of gross web. Just delightful.
The Black Tiger boss is a pretty classic giant spider, and the game’s remaster made him even scarier. It’s so hairy, and its front legs do that horrible thing spiders do to make themselves look bigger and scare off their prey before they strike. Add to that the creepy sound they make when they move along the walls, and you have a recipe for a nightmare.
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess – Armogohma
In the Zelda games, there are a lot of enemies that look like Spiders. From Skulltulas to Tec Tites, all of them are creepy, but Armogohma is the creepiest of them all.
This big Spider momma is easy to remember and always creepy, no matter where it shows up in the franchise. It has glowing eyes, a hairy stomach, and is huge. The way this boss crawls around on the ceiling, the babies it can drop to bother you, and the fact that its one weak spot, a big eye, is always hidden behind tough armor plating. There were different ways to deal with her in each Zelda game, but the fights were always scary.
Limbo: Silhouette Spider
Limbo is a scary game on its own, and its style makes it even more scary. The Spider silhouette is the second-to-last part of its scary theme. If you ask anyone who has played the game what they remember most, most will say the scary big spider.
This monster is different from other eight-legged insectoids because it wants you to fill in the blanks with your own ideas. You can never see the whole being, which makes it even scarier because your brain comes up with all these different ideas of what it might look like. But all you can see are those thin legs reaching out of the darkness, ready to stab anyone who gets too close.
Demons Souls: Armor Spider
Someone at FromSoftware must have asked back in the day, “How can we make spiders even scarier?” And they gave them armor as a response. It was rough, but it definitely worked. The Armor Spider is much more dangerous and sharper than its unarmored cousins, which makes it much harder to kill for good. Also, those red eyes that glow are scary.
Even though its fight is frustrating because it takes place at the end of a long tunnel and the Armor Spider constantly shoots fireballs down, it is a very tough fight once you get close to it. Also, Duke’s Dear Freja would make this boss monster even better in 8 Ball Pool, but this first game was just the start of a series that would become very popular in the future.
Bloodborne: Rom, The Vacuous Spider
Rom is an eldritch being that you have to fight at the end of the Byrgenwerth College. He is not from this world. It has a mangled face that almost looks human. Its solid skull is made of a material that doesn’t seem to break, and it is always followed by a group of Spiderling horrors.
Rom is small and moves slowly, but don’t let that fool you. She can summon a flood of very damaging meteorites from the ether, and her offspring are endless and always leaping at her prey in big, slashing leaps. Plus, she lives in her own nightmare world, which is a vast empty space. So there’s nowhere to run or hide from this huge creepy spider.
Brutal Legend: The Metal Queen
Based on Brutal Legend, everything is Metal. The characters, enemies, moves, music, environment, and bosses are all turned up to 11. It’s a great ode to the genre, and it’s fun to play. In keeping with our Spider theme, Brutal Legends Arachnid is just as heavy as the rest of the cast.
This towering monster is made of metal and has sharp blades for arms. It sends out swarms of smaller, slicing Spiderlings. She wraps and entangles her prey before breaking them with a huge dive-slam from above. The Metal Queen is a creepy creature with a hard boss fight and a great design all around.
